It might be subject to debate, but no, I'd think CPs scenario is valid. If the drink stops the mat working properly, it is functional damage not cosmetic damage. If it stained it but didn't affect use, then it'd be cosmetic. But of course, there might be some argument over whether it does affect functionality or not, in some instances.
wow i think people are digging far to deep into minor situations ie the mouse mat. That is of fairly low value and can be replaced very ealiy. What is more concerning is the fact that most people will see this insurance, buy it without understanding the exclusions, and then be more care-free over their expensive products thinking that they will get a new one if anything should happen, when in fact they may not be covered at all.
This sounds really good, need to check how much it costs, I know this would certainly encourage people to build their own PC's, as when I built my first back in august, this was my prime concern, doing something wrong.
Doesnt look too expensive either!
Nice one
EDIT
One thing is maybe make it not selected by default.
I'd agree with that one. It is a good product that certainly needs pushing but having it on by default pushed my basket up to £20 over what it should be (£10-ish for the insurance + postage). It makes Scan look expensive when you're doing a quick price comparison with other sites. Maybe adding a second total on the basket screen with the insurance included?
I placed my order before this insurance was offered and I want it added onto my stuff that was despatched yesterday .
This has just been a really sucky preordering experience, Im never preordering anything again. Not scans fault, but the pitfall of Pre ordering things.
Its always the CPU that I want that is on Pre order. My E8400 and now I7 D0 were both pre orders, and everything just messes up when they lower prices / offer new services and I didnt get them because my order was placed earlier.
For when the Scan peeps wake up tomorrow, can I please get insurance added onto my stuff that was posted yesterday?

It's an unfortunate isolated case where this insurance was offered after you placed your order, obviously we wouldnt have been able to add the insurance whilst it wasnt available to your order, which has nothing to do with the ordering / pre-ordering system, simply it wasnt available and it is not very often we introduce a new service like this.... But I can understand why you want the insurance and appreciate you want to pay for this new service.
In adition if an item is pre-ordered and the price changes afterwards, when you click BUY for the pre-order item when stock is replenished you get the price when you click BUY, NOT when it was pre-ordered. This could work in your favour if the price is reduced. If the price changes after you BUY the item, then there is probably nothing we can do as the new Retail price will be based on our new cost for NEW stock only.
If you can PM me your invoice number I will look into IF it would be possible to add this onto an order after it has been dispatched.
Also if you want to return the E8400 CPU and pre-order the i7 920 D0 CPU, this can be arranged for you?
Best Regards
I didnt know this? Can I return my E8400 and MSI X48c now ??? They were purchased last year, I think you maybe made a mistake or something. Please let me know what you meantAlso if you want to return the E8400 CPU and pre-order the i7 920 D0 CPU, this can be arranged for you?
Saracen.
The information is online for people to read so if a customer chooses not to read it then it's really their choice. Just like TC's & C's and manuals, most people don't read them but they have to be provided anyway.
Not everyone reads stickies as you have said yourself before or will see this post as unfortunately not all of our customers are members of HEXUS, the best place is our web site.
For customer who purchase Scansure, policy documents are e-mails as a new stage 5 e-mail.

It could have been recent, whilst they were reently out of stock for a short period of time.
I have replied to your PM.

True enough, but there's more than an obligation to provide certain information. It must be clear, unambiguous, intelligible, timely, and not hidden.
The website is indeed the best place for it, but seeing as the subject of the policy was raised here, I can't see the harm in pointing out what it doesn't cover and the circumstances in which it won't offer protection. For any HeXUS members reading this thread, they'll either already have read the PDF (in whcih case, they now anyway and my post won't matter), or they haven't, in which case it makes clear to them (I hope) what they're buying so they don't have false expectations of the extent of the cover. In that latter case, it can only help to make things clear, unambiguous and so on. This is especially true as the way the initial wording is the website is phrased is such that it could be construed to give a level of protection that it doesn't, and the limitations are left to a PDF that we've apparently agreed a lot of people won't, or at least might well not, read.
Again, true, but for people to understand what they're buying, it's better to understand it before they buy it rather than find out in an email after they've bought. While such an email is no doubt a good idea, and might well be mandatory, it doesn't address the issue of people understanding what they are and aren't buying. Anyone with any sense checks the exclusions on ANY insurance policy before they buy it, not afterward.
My point was for people to have realistic expectations of what cover they're buying, because if they don't, there's going to be anger later if they thought they were covered for things they aren't. While an insurance company might not care about that, it's not going to be good either for Scan or HEXUS members if it were to happen.

The information is clear and not hidden - It's on http://www.scan.co.uk/Scansure/. It's a whole page dedicated to this, with BOLD underlined text telling you to click to download Scansure protection Key facts and Terms & Conditions.
This thread links to the locations where the information is clear etc....
http://www.scan.co.uk/Scansure/Index.aspx
When Scansure is added on the checkout stage I agree it's a good idea to understand before they proceed, precidely why we have put another link on this page to Scansure FAQs to be viewed before payment is taken.
The information is clear so I really don't know why you are arguing about the points that we need to meet, when we aleady have done so. All information is on our site and advertised as it should be. If a customer doesn't choose to read the information and follow the link this is their choice.

Not a bad idea.
An insurance for the sausage-fingered PC builder/upgrader
Most won't need it but many people who are building one of their first PCs or doing their first upgrade could benefit from this, if only for the peace of mind.
Lots of posts on hexus from people to afraid they will do something wrong....I guess scan have been reading them?
