Can I just request a simple improvement to the why scansure is added. Would it be possible to opt-out of scansure on a per-item basis.
This would be especially useful on large orders as scansure is next to useless on a mouse mat (yes that example again) or a mouse/keyboard but very useful on a GPU, and its a pain to have to split orders up manually in to separate ones just to remove scansure for a few select parts (also I could mean that one of the mini orders doesn't qualify for free shipping)
Apart from that I quite like the idea of scansure, yes the whole opt-out thing is a little sneaky but we the service is being offered by insurance brokers so what can you expect.
Just like to point out Scan that I do respect the fact that you have let the debate continue on these forums about this product in a open fashion. I may not like the insurance but you've still proved that your willing to listen to constructive criticism.

Could you point me towards the thread it was discussed in before I make any more stupid comments. I remember there being a link in this thread but I cant find it now.
It might be in this post:

Or somewhere in this mamoth thread:

Ok. First thanks Funkstar for the links, and I have now read most of them.
I dont think these questions appeared in the threads so im gonna ask them now.
First if you claim on an component to you have to return the entire order or only the component you have broken/damaged. Also I know that the insurance is on a per-order basis (thats why I ask the previous question) be can the scansure price be shown on a per-item basis or not?
Its on a per basket basis, currenmtly and unlikely from what scan have said will you be able to pick and choose the items you need covered - better to do a separate order for each.
I dont think you will need to return the entire order, otherwise lots of returns and extra cost for Scan, so the extra they make on cases etv via scansure will be wiped out
How much extra would the insurance be if it was on a per item basis? I think most people who would use ScanSure wouldnt mind paying a bit extra to get it on a per item basis than a per basket basis.
Splitting orders in to two baskets may mean one order is too small to qualify for free delivery and there would be no guarantee both orders would arrive together.

The reason why it will NEVER be per item basis unles they start losing business is the money they make from the items you wont damage during installation. Most self builders have a fair knowledge of constructing a PC and are there fore unlikely to damage the Case, HDD, drives, memeory and GFC but these items never the less will still be insured. Its money from those that will prove profitable and offset the cost of replacing any MOBO or processors. I just bought 7 items in total of £880 but spread the order across 4 retailers because it was cost effective. 2 of the retailers offered free delivery for forum members and the other two as standard.
If Scan had been competitive I would have bought all from them, as there service is top notch, but as the difference was signifcant on some of the parts £10 - 15, in this climate I decided to save money
Stanman,
You know if you've got bulk orders we'll always do our best to be as competitive as possible. It's just not possible on certain items but hey, we're here and willing to help Let us try the next time you have a large order.
As for the insurance, I think that the "target audience" for insurance customers are not hexus users..
Many of the sales I have personally done WITH insurance are from newcomers to the industry, looking to get their first machine constructed with peace of mind
All the very best,

But 'per basket' is, it seems, the way it's sold. Whatever the reason, and Stanman's slightly cynical view may or may not be correct, it's the way Scan choose to offer it .... or it's the way the insurance company operate the scheme, and Scan didn't get a say in the matter.
From what's been said, it doesn't look likely to change, either. So I suspect you just have to either have to accept it on all items in a basket to which it applies, or split. And if the split means one order is too small for free delivery .... well, it's probably going to be cheaper to just accept Scansure on the extra few items. After all, if the order is small enough to not get free delivery, it's under £20. And if it's under £20, the nominal extra premium from Scansure is hardly going to be worth worrying about, so just stick it all in one order.
I'd like to buy minced beef from the supermarket I use in 350g packs, 'cos 300g isn't enough, and 500g is too much. But they don't do that size, so I have to work round it. I suspect you will too.
I realise some people may be miffed with having to pay money to insure a monitor they are not going to break, but the difference is negligable anyway. This morning I did a test with the XFX 4890 (which I'm probably going to get, since SCAN have it at an insanely cheap price) and the insurance was around £2.50. That's for a £170 graphics card. Surely buying something from another retailer just to avoid that is more hassle than it's worth?
But if you pair that graphics card with a big monitor (exactly the example i've given in the past). You either pay postage on both item, or you suck it up and pay the insurance. either way you are paing more than you would have done for the monitor than you would have before this scheme was introduced.
Though really, as forum regulars, what difference does it make? If we wanted insurance on some items and not others, we would just make multiple orders using the free delivery. That way you are not over paying to the insurers. Obviously this will cost Scan on delivery, but as Scan have said, they are not a charity, but then neither are we
mmm does this mean now people making multiple free carriage orders within a short timeframe are likely to be penalised, losing their carriage privileges or getting some warning first?
