My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
Hi. I ordered:
Intel I7 920 D0 and a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Mobo, and they dispatched today at a charge of £263.55 for the CPU, and £216.40 for the motherboard.
Todays prices on these two products are £249.75 for the CPU and £212.74 for the motherboard:

Can I get the difference of £17.46 refunded? I have also sent an E mail and will provide the order number by PM if required.
Also, I didnt have the option when placing the order for Scansure insurance. I checked the items today and insurance would have been £10.60. I am not building the new PC untill monday as I am waiting untill then for an Antec P182 case, is it possible to have the insurance added after dispatch?

I think you've paid for this
Hence why it's much more.
EDIT - I see you've seen the ScanSure, maybe just the prices increased before you bought it. Unlucky I guess.

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
Another thing I need to ask is that I ordered a pair of blue cathodes as I didnt originally intend to buy a new case, but now that I'm getting the P182 which doesnt have a windowed side panel, I dont need them anymore, but as they only cost £5.50, it doesnt seem worth paying to post them back. Do Scan refund the cost of posting items back or not? If not then I'll just have them lying around doing nothing.
I did try and cancel them from the order, but it had already dispatched. I also wanted to cancel 3x Blue coolermaster fans I intended to use on my current case, but have decided to keep these to use as my case fans, as some blue is nice for pictures, and these will also shine out of the fan holes. I would want another 2 now as the case has 5 fan slots, but would have to pay for delivery on just two fans, so will have to wait untill I buy something else again.
So I'm just stuck with the overcharge and now unwanted blue cathodes for the time being.

No, scansure wasnt available when I placed my order, these were the individual prices I paid from my invoice when ordering a few days ago, I just had to wait for stock on the CPU untill today.
Scansure was only £10.60 on my components today, and not included on my order, but I would still like to be able to have it.
I placed the order a few days ago when the prices were higher, and today they went down but I had already been charged the higher price when I placed the order.
This is my invoice and how much I was charged, you can see the higher prices for the CPU and Mobo:

I just remembered I can add two extra blue fans to the order for my case if I phone tommorow morning, I dont like the black ones that come with the P182 and take lots of pictures so want to put in 5 blue fans, but I dont want the cathodes anymore :(. My current blue fans are really loud ones and I want to get rid of my fan controller as it makes cable management a nightmare, so thats why I ordered them at first.
I got a free gift though :)
The amendment was a UD4 to a UD5, at least I can be glad I got that done before it shipped.

Ahhh, Scan doesn't take payment until everything is there and I think the invoice doesn't update with the current prices when they take payment as it could happen the other way round and the price goes up and customer X gets charged more. I do see why you see it as unfair that you're being charged the expensive price. Maybe they'll refund the difference you'll just have to wait for a reply tommorow :)

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
Yea, they did this for me before when I ordered my second Samsung Spinpoint and it went down by £2.50 on the following days this day only. They should be able refund the difference within the 7 day cancellation period if the price drops within then, after the cancellation period, what you paid is final.
This time though the prices went down on the day of despatch, which is even more annoying.
Its like if you buy something from a shop and have a 7-28 day refund policy, and the price drops afterwards, you can just go back and request the difference refunded, or you can have the item refunded in full and just buy it again at the lower price, because you are entitled to be able to pay the same price as everyone else does within that period - You could do this easilly with an online retailer too if you lived nearby to them.
Or, it's just silly supermarket retail logic from Tescos and Asda, every little helps :p. But £17.46 is a bit bigger then little.

The UD5 is on today only, so not sure if it will be refunded.
However, i ordered a 920 d0 from somewhere and before they got them in stock the price dropps, so i got a refund no problems, scan should be the same.
the fans and cathodes however is akward

Yea, they did refund me the difference on a today only offer on my samsung hard drive before. The thing is if I had placed the order today, well, yesterday now, I would have had the motherboard for the lower price.
I'll keep the fans and call in the morning to add another two to my case order, but the cathodes .... :(
Tried cancelling them, already dispatched, not worth paying to post them back now. Its my fault for changing my mind about getting a new case.

This is very hard to apply to a warehouse / JIT / high turnover business due to its nature.
Presumably you would have no problem with Scan taking an extra £20 from your card on the 7th day because the items price went up? ;)
Sure you can return items under the DSR, but this adds additional time and postage expense. Unless there is a big difference, it's rarely worth it. You also need to keep in mind that you need to abide by the terms of the DSR: Installing hardware and using it for 7 days then trying to return it because of a price drop is stretching them at best ;)

Indeed - been there :( But you need to keep in mind that it is perfectly possible that Scan had a new delivery that day of the product at a much lower price. Again, it\'s going to be down to realtime pricing.

But this is retailer specific. In terms of the law you're not entitled to this. The shops are doing this to try and persuade customers to shop there. It is, in essence, a marketing exercise.

Only if they allowed a 28 day refund period. This is going to be very rare - I can't think of any current computer retailer like Scan that does this?

Tescos have insane market buying power, which gives them much cheaper products to start with in most cases. They also have a very different business model to scan in terms of supply and demand.
Don't get me wrong here - I dislike it as much as the next man, but you can't simply apply the ideas from one retail sector to the computer sector and expect them to hold.
I've seen retailers refund changes that happened the same day , which is rather nice of them :)

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
I definately meant returning the items under DSR before opening or using them. The postage cost is the only obstacle.
Ok, I'll forget about the 7 day thing for web orders because its not a retail shop, but if the price drops prior to you signing for the items delivery (excluding any delays, just up untill when delivery is promised) whether as a permanent change or this day only it should be refundable for anyone in this situation.
P.S Im nocturnal and sleep during the day, so these order changing things and chasing them up always stresses me out.
I know that Play.com have a policy that states that if the price of an item changes before despatch, they will charge the lower price - this is what I should have mentioned earlier, not the retail shop procedure.
I want my £17.46 back but its time when everyone else is sleeping, and Im wide awake.

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
To be honest, the only reason that a shop will give you teh refund when they have a 28 day returns policy is because otherwise everybody would take the item back, claim a full refund, then repurchase it. The outcome is the same, but the workload is far higher.
You would have thought that given the DSR rules, Scan would be happy to refund when the only reason you can't take the item back is because the postage costs are prohibitive. In other words, if you live in Bolton then it's quite easy to take kit back and request a full refund, then buy another one straight away, so it's easier just to offer a refund based on the price difference, and if you don't live in Bolton then you're almost being discriminated against. Not illegal discrimination, obviously, but one that might be flagged up as a potential customer relations pothole.
THis could be slightly dodgy logic since I'm completely knackered, but I think I know what I'm on about :D

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
That is exactly what I meant Jim, of course as long as you dont open or use it first.
*Forehead vein becomes less bulgy now that someone else understands retail*.
I shouldnt have to pay more because I Pre ordered than someone else who ordered on the same day that my stuff was despatched.
Scan need to have 24/7 customer services. I would do that for a night job.

You have raised new points here as well, please try and keep your post all in one place to make it easier for us ;).
We will look into everything once I have your invoice number.

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
Invoice number sent, but not needed anymore.
I just phoned them up and they said they can refund the difference, but they cant add scansafe insurance now :(
I wanted the motherboards and CPU insured, nevermind, I\'m a pro builder now, I just might have a little difficulty with the CPU cooler.
Oh, I can pick up two extra fans when Windows 7 is released, and just use two of the black ones that come with the case for now.

Re: My order dispatched today, and I were charged more then todays prices
Very unhappy.
They could refund the difference on the motherboard of a few £, but they cant / wont do on the CPU, even though my CPU was from the current £249 stock.
