Spent a lot SCAN this week but HELP!!!!!
It all started the other day when my computer stinkily blew up.
I assumed it was the PSU and swapped my Antec Smartpower 500 for a brand new Tagan 700.
The computer wouldn't POST -the fans would twitch but that was all.
So I assumed I'd fried the mobo.
SO I replaced my old Asus P5W DH Deluxe + E6600 + 2 x 1 GB 533 DDR2 RAM
th an Asus P5QL-E + Q9550 + 2 x 2 GB 1066 DDR2 RAM
and still the board won't POST.
I've tried getting it to POST without Graphics card and without RAM - but still all I get is a moment of power as the fans twitch and then nothing.
Yes I have checked that both the 24 pin and the 8 pin power connectors are connected correctly.
I have tried booting with all fans disconnected too.
What do you reckon I should look atg now?
Re: Spent a lot SCAN this week but HELP!!!!!
so neither psu power either board?
any access to a psu tester, even one of the cheapie ones to see if it outputs?
is it same case and optical drive etc?
check for shorts, unplug everything non essential (if you havent already) including optical, audio and usb etc
even try removing and powering on the basics outside the case
and please edit the b..... its a family site!
Re: Spent a lot SCAN this week but HELP!!!!!
OP check the heatsink... sometimes if it's screwed on too tight and is making contact witht he mobo it can short the system and stop startup.

I was trying to be helpful and to then bring in a polite way attention to his choice of words that may bring the site into disrepute.
Making comments about me will not help either matter.
Re: Spent a lot SCAN this week but HELP!!!!!
I have isolated the problem to a short on the power side of the main boot HDD.
This is apparent when the HDD is connected to the PSU whether or not it is plugged into the mobo...
:(
and i have no backup :(
So all my apps and a 120Gb storage partition down the pan.
Ordering a new HDD today and taking advice on backup solutions
Any ideas on the most cost effective system unintrusive total back up solution for several HDDs?
EDit: and I edited the b**
it was frustration that made me do it.
