Looking for 3m flexible SATA cable for eSATA remote storage

I am looking for 3m flexible SATA cable for eSATA remote storage.

    Is there such a thing?

Or will I be better off going with a NAS backup solution rather than a dedicated eSATA box?

Re: Looking for 3m flexible SATA cable for eSATA remote storage

I think the longest permitted under the specification for esata is 2m with shielded cables

I had a very nice sata to esta akasa cable from scan 1.8 or 2m length I cant remember, very well shielded. I expect the esata to esata would be similar. If you put an esata to sata bracket, so you are plugging in at the back of the PC, would 2m be enough then or is that where you need the 3m from?

If you really need the extra distance go for usb hub and usb to esata converter but of course you will be losing speed & maybe reliability. I have had issues with usb external caddies being saturated and the device dropping out of windows under sustained heavy load, don't know if this will be an issue with usb-esata converters.

If its only for one PC, esata should be considerably cheaper than a decent NAS. There are a few posters expressing problems with certain NAS recently as well.

Re: Looking for 3m flexible SATA cable for eSATA remote storage

    I've found a 1.5m cable - that's the longest I can find.
I could get away with less if the eSATA drive was in a 1U rackmount.

Does anyone make a 1U rackmountable 1TB eSATA storage device ?

Re: Looking for 3m flexible SATA cable for eSATA remote storage

I have this top one so I can plug an esata into a mobo header or into the backplate I have which is a straight thru int header to int header but external, if that makes sense! Really super quality cable:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/180cm...lue-Data-Cable
    LN17843 SATA-E18-BL - 180cm Akasa SATA2 to ESATA Blue Data Cable

    This one for straight esata
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/18m-A...ack-Data-Cable
    LN17844 ESATA-E18-BKV2 - 1.8m Akasa e-SATA to e-SATA Black Data Cable

Also this one, but the ends shown don't seem to match the description
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/2m-e-...to-7pin-Female)
    LN21039 RB-442 - 2m e-SATA to e-SATA Sheilded Cable (7pin Male to 7pin Female)

Scan please spell Shielded correctly too!

So 1.8 - 2m there hope that helps
