Scansure Question?

Hi All,

I should probably be emailing SCAN directly for this, but it's a weekend and the items I want are on this weekend only, so by the time I get an answer they'll be gone .

I'm just about to order components for my first build from SCAN and had a question about the "Scansure" insurance, does anyone know if it covers things like, for example, the very unlikely event of damaging a CPU when fitting a 3rd party cooler (also from SCAN)?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but it's my first build and knowing my luck something is going to go wrong so I'm interested to find out what that covers you for. (I did read the pdf). Is it worth paying the £15 extra on a first-time build?

It's a very good question, and I can't give an answer. But I suspect it'd depend on exactly what happened. One of the tihngs the exclusion clauses say you aren't covered for is if you fail to follow manufacturer's instructions.

If the damage resulted from you not properly follwoing the cooler installation instructions, that would seem to suggest you wouldn't be covered.

If, on the other hand, you carefully followed instructions but slipped, and accidentally damaged something , then that would appear to be exactly what Scansure is for .... accidental damage.

So I have no idea what the official answer would be , or even who would make the decision (Scan, or the insurance company), but it looks like it might be a case of depending on exactly what the circumstances are, and how both they and the exclusion clauses are interpreted.

Basically it is exactly as Saracen has said providing you carefully follow any installation instructions you would be covered.
