    Radeon HD 4770 Availability

I've 95% convinced myself that I need to buy one of these to save money (I pay the leccy bill!) but they seem to be doing a hen's teeth impression currently.

What's the likelihood you'll get them back in soon Scan? Esp LN27374.

On a theoretical side line, are 4770s likely to drop in price when HD 5XXX GPUs are released?

    Re: Radeon HD 4770 Availability

At the moment it looks like we might get some hen's teeth before we see any of the 4770 based cards.

This is why some of the other ranges appear to have had a price reduction, so they appeal to those looking to spend the same amount as the 4770 or a little bit more.

Our purchasing team are always checking to see if there are any updates, but as yet we've not been given any new information.

    I hope this information helps,

    Best Regards,

    I couldn't say.

It depends on quite a lot of factors such as is the new item getting put into a new price range or if it is going to replace another SKU card.

Also, we generally adhere to NDA's. As such we do not release any information until the embargo's are lifted.

    Fair enuff!

I'll sit on it for a while then as I really did want to have the benefit of the 40nm chip even though for the same number of bucks I get as much bang from a 4850.

The only quandry is whether to put a pre-order in as an insurance policy...?

    Re: Radeon HD 4770 Availability

To be honest I'd give up, I don't think you'll see any more 4770s in the UK to buy for a long time, possibly never. This looks to me the reason why the 4850 has dropped so much in price - the former is effectively discontinued.

    Re: Radeon HD 4770 Availability

Searching around last week many other retailers actually did list it as discontinued. I wonder how that bodes for ATI's up-coming 40nm based GPUs...

    Re: Radeon HD 4770 Availability

I've had the same thought myself, it's not looking good - either the 4770 was nothing more than a test prototype, or the 5800 series is going to be as rare as rocking horse poop. I'm hoping the former, that the 4770 was proof of concept, and they've had to divert all their manufacturing capacity to test samples of the 5800s. Does beg the question how many do they really need though?

    Re: Radeon HD 4770 Availability

It certainly does appear as a test product of the new process and so short lived. It now means everybody snaps up the old stock at great prices. Great marketing in my opinion.
