Re: XFX HD 4890 Black (LN27747) Stock

I'm more keen to get the Sapphire 4890 Atomic. The XFX BE uses stock cooling and gets VERY hot according to reviews, where as the Sapphire uses specialist cooling.

Any news on when you may have the Sapphires in Scan?

Re: XFX HD 4890 Black (LN27747) Stock

From what i understand the XXX is a higher clocked version of the standard 4890 at GPU 900mhz and the Black is a higher clocked version then that at 1000/4000, problem is they have used the standard reference cooler on a in effect overclocked board so the thing sounds like a bloody hairdrier.

Well, I've just pre-ordered the Black so hopefully it'll do good over the 1GB 8800GT Alpha Dog I got at the moment, now just gotta wait for it.

What reolution are you running? although the 4890 will beat the 8800GT at any res (1Gb on 8800gt is wasted due to 256bit bus and GDDR3)

1900/1200 on a 24" screen, I know the 1GB was wasted on the 8800GT but it was a bargain at £50 a year ago

Re: XFX HD 4890 Black (LN27747) Stock

Hi - it's worth the wait - got mine a couple of weeks ago. A bit loud - but not as bad as people make out + I can set mine to 30% fan and it is fine and quiet (temps go to about 75C, on auto fan goes to about 50% and temps to about 60C).

Mine will overclock to 1050 core and 1150 ram. Destroys games at 1920x1080 includign Crysis and AOC DX10 (with God Rays on!).
