The Scythe Musashi isn't compatible with 4870's despite what Scan say!

Despite what it says on their website and review sites. I bought one from Scan, opened it up and found absolutely no mention of how to install the card with the cooler. I had to look around the Internet to find how to do it.

So, finally I get it done but upon picking it up, the whole cooler shifts 1/2cm. I find the pins that run through the holes around the core aren't wide enough and therefore wobble about in the space. I've done it up as tight as possible but the fact that the pins aren't wide enough means it's loose!

I tried it anyway but my computer wouldn't boot up. I'm not sure whether that is down to the card or not, but it doesn't matter, Scan have an RMA on the way...

Is your card a default PCB, or a partner custom one?

Default PCB made by XFX. It all has the right holes in the right place, but the pins supplied by Scythe just aren't wide enough and mean the cooler is loose.

Also, there are no other screw holes on the board apart from the ones around the core meaning it's poorly held...

According to the manual, you can change which holes are used by the pins, have you tried that?

and which XFX 4870 is it?, the XXX versions have a custom PCB

edit: although, looking are "your system" you're getting a new card? it may fit on the new one
saving you the cost of shipping

Well, as far as i can see, nowhere says that you can't used it with custom PCB cards, so it should be fine, and the installation guide has no mention of 4870's either even though scythes site does

And the "custom PCB" may be something stupid like a custom board colour and slightly different layout with the same base structure (which i'm guessing it would be )

are you still within 7 days? as that will make the process nice and smooth

have you raised it internally with SCAN (through their help system)? that way they have official note of it

might be worth emailing scyth at the same time just to say that you are having issues with it, it may be that it needs a bracket for 4870s or something...

I'm waiting to do it via phone tomorrow, should be quicker. Now to work out why my computer won't start...

Everything powers on, but the CPU fan won't start. I change the fan header and it works. However, each time, whether or not the fan starts, it just powers on for a second then off again, on again and off again. Just loops

If it's a custom PCB... why did my stock EK waterblock fit it fine (designed for default PCB layouts)?

Well, modded it in the end and there is a lot less wobble:





Last time I fitted I guess it was tight enough as it left a mark on the actual heatsink.
