Can a Scan moderator please PM me?

I'm actually puzzled at why my thread was locked so quickly. I don't believe I was hostile or abusive in any way. It was a legitimate query that had no bearing on an order I just placed. I was merely curious.

Apologies if it wasn't a Scan moderator that locked my thread.

    Bugbait

    I locked the thread.

I was about to PM you anyway.... There is nothing in particular wrong with your thread itself, the reason why it was locked is because I anticipated another long thread with the same comments as we have received previously.

I can see a link was posted where you should be able to find the answers to any queries you may have but to confirm scansure is attached to pretty much all products, the Green text indicates the applicable products the Policy covers.

    Best Regards

To fill in on this, Scansure is not attached to every product, for instance is not available on plastic fan holders (though if you broke one of those trying to install it you'd have to be pretty rough!) - i don't really see why it's been applied on water coolant though, that should be amended.

Thanks, that's exactly where I was coming from. Please note, it's not my intention to "accuse" Scan of being shifty, I'm merely curious why Scansure is being applied to some products that don't really need it (mouse mats is another example)?

Chris, I browse Hexus regularly when I'm not too busy at work (like now) since it's one of the few forums that the client firewall allows. I'm moderately familiar with the arguments surrounding Scansure but previous threads have been centered around the opt-in/out implementation. Although I have my own opinion regarding this it ultimately doesn't bother me too much, else I simply wouldn't shop with Scan.

As per sammorris' response, I'm curious what criteria is used to select which products are and aren't covered by Scansure as it's not 100% of products. Again, this has nothing to do with the order I've already placed (22p is insignificant in real terms).

Please, no arguments about opt-in/out. It's not relevant to my query.

EDIT: Fix small grammatical error - naughty!

Re: Can a Scan moderator please PM me?

I think it's more a case that Scansure is applied to every product and charged based on its value, and when they find obvious exceptions they remove them. I'm assuming they just haven't spotted ones like this, or haven't got round to changing it.

Rabbid: Not sure whether that's a joke or not. Have you seen the thickness of the plastic that those bottles are usually made of?

So the insurance would cover you spilling it everywhere? I did consider that and after some thought, maybe it's not as ludicrous as I first thought. Personally, I'd accept it as human error but based on some previous posts on this forum that might not be so silly. I doubt the insurance would cover the damage caused by the coolant? I would suspect the parts getting wet would have to have the relevant Scansure cover?

EDIT: For the record, I consciously kept the Scansure insurance on my recent order. This isn't about the implementation or even the extent of the cover, merely why it's on products that in my mind, don't need it.

Would be an interesting one, I don't know exactly where watercooling comes from in that regard. I tell you what, if I did build a water-cooled system I'd be interested in some long term insurance from leakage...

I don't know, it was my best guess! I wasn't sure if it had consequential liability (if thats the correct term) for example other pc parts shorted out or a spoiled patch on your carpet due to it being spilled by accident (or tripping, dropping, standing on, etc) whilst attempting to apply/install it according to the manufacturers instructions...

I've been watercooling for many years and love it. Although it's possible to get "long term" insurance the cost is probably not worth it given the relatively low risk over time. Most leaks occur immediately or very soon after initial use so standard Scansure cover would be arguably adequate. Unless you move your watercooled kit a lot the chance of a hose splitting or coming off is low. This would usually occur very quickly if not installed correctly.

And thanks for the feedback Chris, that was really all I was after .
