    1TB Western Digital WD1001FALS (LN24120) ETA

    Hi guys,

I am getting ready to receive my preordered copy of Windows 7. I have decided I want a new harddrive.

Do you have an ETA on when the 1TB Western Digital WD1001FALS will be back in stock?

Also, do you suggest I leave it unpartitioned and use for my primary os, apps, games etc and have a second HDD for music, videos etc? I can use the HDD i currently have as my OS HDD for music, but i would probably get NAS Storage in November so netbook/desktop can access the same library.

Also, any suggestions on NAS Storage would be great! No more than £150 - MAX!

Nice to be back in the forum - it has been a while. I hope all at Scan are AAAAAA OK!

    Thanks,

    Mark

At the moment we do not have a date from the purchasing team as to when that model of hard-drive is going to becoming back into stock.

In regards to your question regarding drive setup, partitions and whatnot. It's really down to personal preferences. Some people like to get a big drive and split that so they can have OS on 1 partition, Music and photo's on another partition and then there are those like myself who have all sorts of weird and wonderful drive combinations for various data types and usages.

    As for the NAS question. At the moment the netgear are popular due to the free drive offer (which ends on the 30th SEPT so hurry it's not on for long!) and these can be seen at the following link ;

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Netge...AS-(Empty-Case)

I myself use a synology NAS storage device and this is also very good and is able to download various files, download torrents and run various servers on it so that I can stream and play with stuff at home.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks for the reply Lee.

Don't have the spare cash to get the NAS just now. I will look into it more in November.

I will look back the middle of October for the WD Caviar HDD and hopefully they will be back in stock by then!

    Thanks again.

I would choose the former option since folders are meant for organizing data, not partitions. You will almost always find at some point that one partition has too little space while another has too much, and then you have to mess around re-partitioning.

(LN24120) 'Item overdue since 30 October 2009' Does this mean they will be back in stock again soon?
