    New Intel SSDs incoming

I was listening to the Bittech/CustomPC hardware podcast that was released last week, and they let slip that theres a new Intel SSD currently being benchmarked by themselves and the NDA drops this week. All they could say about the drive is that its "affordable". I have pre-ordered the Intel X-25M 80GB G2 but with no stock in sight, I will be waiting with interest!

    Re: New Intel SSDs incoming

    Interesting, I too have a pro-orderd Gen2 80GB on scan.

I thought the Gen2 was still pretty new (most reviews seem to have been done July?) so maybe its a new range in a different price bracket.I'll be keeping an eye out anyway.

Any word on when scan are getting more of the Gen2's in? Price has jumped since I ordered mine (just a few days ago).

This will be the X25-X which have pretty appaling transfer rates of 170mb/s read and 40mb/s write.

    Smaller size as well :/
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Thanks for the info Peter. On the basis of that I have no need to cancel my X-25M preorder.

    Sequential.

And if that was all there was too it - end of story. However, if they perform well with small random writes/reads then they'll kill the competition as an OS drive. That said, without the figures it's anybodies guess - but i'd certainly pick up a couple if they matched the X25-M in this respect because believe me, they're blazingly fast as an OS drive despite a 'mere' 70mb/s sequential write figure.

    Re: New Intel SSDs incoming

Anything which forces down the prices of SSDs is a good thing in my book. A read speed of 170MB/s would still be a nice boost for a OS drive compared to mechanical.

It did that pretty much every day last week - I don't think Intel/the distributor are very good at honouring their delivery dates. I've got one on pre-order too, but I'm pretty certain I'm near the end of the list and won't have my order fulfilled for a while yet. Ah well.

    Re: New Intel SSDs incoming

Mine picked and despatched too. I'm officially excited! (Excited about storage... oh dear I'm sad)

The X series is interesting a suppose, but if I wanted a slower/cheaper drive I couldve got another make anyway
The X25-M is going in my rig, maybe my laptop will get an X25-X when they land depending on just how cheap they are.
