    K8S8X and RocketHead 100s

I recently got an ASRock K8S8X and two Highpoint RocketHead 100 ATA-SATA adaptors from Scan. I'm using them on two identical Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40GB HDs... well, trying to use them at least. About 98% of the time they aren't detected during the SATA startup scan, and on the (very) odd occasion that they are they disappear after a reboot or two. It's identical on both SATA channels, both RocketHeads, both drives and three SATA cables, so I'm suspecting incompatibility between the board and the adapters.

I've tried master, slave and CS jumper settings, different power cables, even upgraded the mobo BIOS from 1.50 to 1.60, but never makes any difference.

    All suggestions welcome...

Are the drives set to master ?
Also, are you trying to use them across RAID ? If so :

Supports RAID 0, 1, JBOD, when two RocketHead 100 converters are used with the RR1520, RR1540, or RR1542 SATA host adapters.
From the offical website. So id guess you'd have to be using a SATA controler based on one of those chipsets.

Cheers Agent, that could well be the problem. It's an onboard RAID controller built in to the Sis southbridge, so I guess it doesn't work with it, RAID or not.

There are generic adapters available, I actually paid a few pounds more to get the brand-name type. Grrr... I don't know whether to try and return them (restocking fee?), sell them, get a Highpoint controller... ugh.

Guess I'll contact Scan and find out my options. Thanks again.
