Hi.
I'm after a 80-100GB SSD. Not willing to spend more than £200.

Anyone have any recommendations? Thought of buying OCZ OCZSSD2-1VTX96G.
Cheers,
Adam

Intel X25-M.
Thanks for reply. The read and write speeds of the OCZ drive are much higher though.

It has a range of drives including the OCZ and Intel mentioned here also the sandforce Corsair and Curical C300
Page 5 clearly shows what smargh and kalniel are talking about.
But whether the performance increase is worth the extra cost is debatable.

Which version? I can see at least four different models of the X25M.
You'll want a Generation 2 SSD from Intel whatever you get. The MLC based ones are cheaper than the SLC versions however there is also a speed (and some say a lifetime) difference.
I would recommend this drive: 80gb Intel X25-M @ £166.72 (inc vat). Scan call it the M25-M but if you check the manufacturer code it actually is the x25-m.
I have recently had the same choice as you. However I went with the Crucial C300 RealSSD @ 128gb because it is Sata3. I have Sata3 on my new motherboard so it just made sense to use it. However, the c300 is outside your budget limits.
I'm looking for a SSD too...
The Gen2 Intel looks good, but it has been the same price for about a year... makes it seem like a bad idea to buy one now. Not sure I can hang on until xmas for the gen3 though.
I expect the Gen3 will be out of your price range and won't necessarily lead to a price drop for the G2.
I say get the g2 now and start enjoying it.
There's not suddenly going to be some amazing performance increase that will change your world.
SSDs are infinitely faster than typical hard disks - that's the difference you'll notice. Comparing two high-quality SSDs to each other the difference really isn't noticeable. I wouldn't bother waiting if you've got the money and want it now.
im hoping with the next gen larger capacities will become more affordable not faster
Intel X25-M 80GB very reliable. I have one of these as my primary o/s applications drive since they first came out and it is excellent (with Windows 7) and I can recommend it.
I'm sure the ocz is excellent as well, if you can find somebody who has experience of using one to recommend.
