Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
Hi All,
I just bought a Gainward GTX Golden Sample, my system is completely stock, no overclocking of any kind running Win 7 with the latest Nvidia Drivers from the Nvidia site.
I bought this card to replace an ageing Ati 4670.
Booting into windows everything is fine and looks great, if i go into a game i hear the fan whirring up on the GFX card and temps stay around the 55 - 60 degree mark on the card.
However after a minute of playing or so i start to see corruption on the screen, it looks like the pixels arent being drawn in the right place, so if you have the straight edge of a window you get black pixels either side of it, same with text etc, kind of like the spraypaint selection of a paint app with just a few specs coming out all over the screen. I have an image of it on

Sorry, i cant post URL's yet.
If i then come out of the game everything goes back to normal.
I am running a Core i7 860 on an MSI P55-GD80 and an Emermax 425w Pro82+ with the one GTX 460.
Is the card faulty?
Re: Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
It looks like it. Do you have another system you can test the card in? Or a friend's system?
Re: Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
Try another card in your rig?
Try another rig with your card?
Doesn't look good though :/
Re: Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
I would suggest that you log this issue you are having with the returns team at the link Here
Once they look into this, they will be able to assist you further in rectifying this problem.
Best Regards,
Re: Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
Im going to try it in another rig tomorrow, this one has a 600W Corsair so if it doesnt work in that its duff.
If it does work, i have a slightly older Enermax 525W power supply i can use, but i need to buy another Molex to 6 Pin PCi-E first.
Still, at least i'll know what the problem is one way or the other.... :clapping:
Re: Gainward GTX 460 GS - Strange Screen Corruption
Ok,
I'm in touch with Gainward support and have also contacted Scan regarding an RMA, however im not sure if this is a card issue or a BIOS issue on the card yet, hence the comms with Gainward support. The problem is specifically seen when using VGA and not HDMI or DVI.
Here are the steps i have taken to prove this, and this is also what i have passed to Gainward:-
Test Software - Furmark
Resolution 1920 x 1080
Test PC's - Both Run Windows 7 x64 -
PC - 1
1 X MSI P55-GD80
1 x Core i7 860
PC - 2
1 x Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5
1 x Intel Core 2 6600
Test Displays:-
Panasonic TH42PX60 Plasma (HDMI)
Viewsonic VA2413wm LCD Monitor (VGA only)
Both have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080
Test 1 -
PC - 1 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor)
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
Artefacts on screen after a few minutes as described below
Test 2 -
PC - 1 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor)
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 525W Power Supply
Result -
Artefacts on screen after a few minutes as described below
Test 3
PC - 2 Connected to Panasonic Plasma via HDMI
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
NO Artefacts on screen
Test 4
PC - 2 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor)
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
Artefacts on screen after a few minutes as described below
Test 5
PC - 2 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor) AND connected to Panasonic Plasma via HDMI (Dual Screen Setup)
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
Display corruption on screen of Viewsonic VA2413wm after a few minutes - NO corruption on Panasonic Plasma via HDMI (Dual Screen Setup) at the same time.
Moving Furmark from Screen 1 to Screen 2 the corruption steadily stops on the Viewsonic and no issues are seen on the Plasma via HDMI.
Please note that Furmark window as simply been slid from screen 1 to 2, it has NOT not been stopped and started.
As a result this problem appears to be specifcly related to VGA and not HDMI.
Test 6
PC - 2 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor), but this time via the DVI-I interface in the card using a DVI-I to VGA adaptor
Furmark at default settings + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
Artefacts on screen after a few minutes as described below (Ruling out the VGA port on the card as the issue).
Test 7
PC - 2 Connected to Viewsonic VA2413wm via VGA (there is no DVI or HDMI on this monitor), AND connected to Panasonic Plasma via HDMI (Dual Screen Setup)
Furmark at EXTREME settings (Extreme burning Mode, Displacement Mapping, Post FX, 32x MSAA), + resolution of 1920 x 1080
Furmark running on Panasonic Plasma - Firefox up typing this mail via Gmail on Viewsonic
Enermax 425W Power Supply
Result -
NO artefacts on either Screen
Notes:-
Previously used PC-1 for several months with Ati 4670 whit no issues at 1920 x 1080 via VGA, ruling out monitor as issue.
Previously used PC-2 for several months with Ati 5450 with no issues at 1920 x 1080 via HDMI.
