    Question SCAN/Hexus Free shipping question

    Hi there.

I have been registered on the AVForums site for a while, and that qualifies me for free shipping over £50+VAT via my SCAN account.

Now that I'm a member here at Hexus, I believe there is the ability to have free shipping from £20+VAT. I tried to apply for that via the SCAN web site, but the system said I already qualified for free shipping (I assume the AVForums free shipping).

I don't know if this will make a difference, but I have raised a OLQ with Scan. Are they able to do this for me, or am I stuck with the £50+VAT limit??

I will be ordering a few things from SCAN soon, but won't be spending 50quid.

    Cheers

    MD

    Re: SCAN/Hexus Free shipping question

I'm a volunteer moderator at HEXUS, and don't have anything to do with Scan or the free delivery offer.

However, given that it may take until Monday for Scan to see this and respond, here's a link to someone asking the same question a couple of weeks ago: http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...-delivery.html

Im also a volunteer Mod with no attachment to Scan, but I am fairly confident that if you started with AVF, that's how your account will remain.

I imagine you're not supposed to but if they can't switch you over you could probably re-register a new email address? Hopefully their support team will be able to sort you out though, you can only ask.

Well I had an official response via their OLQ system to say they can't change the free delivery option - its locked to the AVForums restrictions.
So that confirms what otheres have said above.

I then tried moving my email of my current (locked to AVForums) account to another email addy and create a new Scan account with my current address and email (as registered here on Hexus) but their system is too canny for this - as it would not allow a new account when there is another in place with the same postal address.

Also I can't see any way to delete my current account

    So I am stuck.

Pity really, as I want to do more business with Scan (n fact I am ready to order now), but I don't always want to spend 50quid + VAT.

I believe people who have tried to 'fiddle' the system in the past have been banned from it. It's not particularly hard to spot.

Thanks mate, but I want this fixed ongoing - can't just deliver to a friend every time I want somethig from Scan.
Plus my card details won't then match the delivery address, so it may not work anyway.

I can believe this. That's why I am asking how to get this resolved rather than just march over their terms and conditions.

I want to do business with Scan, - I just did not think this would be so difficult.

Obviously I'm just another forum user here, but I spent many years as a mod / admin at HEXUS.
The only thing I can point out is that I never saw anyone successfully change their account from AV to HEXUS (or the other way). Scan has always said, and as far as I'm aware stuck to, that they can't be changed.

I've no magical insider information, so please don't take this as anything that's been said by any of the HEXUS lot or Scan, but HEXUS has had a rather large influx of people from AVForums who have tried to do this in the past. Traditionally it follows the same pattern: A AVForum user signs up, quickly gets to 20 posts in a day or two (often being of dubious quality), immediately asks how they can get free postage with HEXUS, gets informed they can't, and then various angry posts / I'll shop elsewhere comments get posted.

I'm not saying that's the situation here, but it's something that's happened often. I can fully understand why HEXUS & Scan (keep in mind this is a joint venture) have a blanket rule in place to simply cut this avenue off. The amount of administration in checking users, modifying the linkage details and then ensuring they are active posters on a new forum is soon going to mount up. It also caused a large amount of poor quality posts on the forum, which ultimately ended up being deleted by the HEXUS mods - causing more work, annoyance, and then the person who was almost at 20 posts often kicking off over PM. Were not even getting into the 'who is the judge of it' issue if it was done on an individual basis.

I honestly don't think there is a perfect solution, someone is going to be unhappy somewhere. As a member of both forums, I consider myself lucky that I was with HEXUS when it was changed. Keep in mind that AVFroums used to be 20 quid too, and it was changed ~2011 IIRC. It wasn't changed at HEXUS though, so an educated guess would be that HEXUS users traditionally were spending more to justify it, or that there is some agreement in place between the site owners. I honestly don't know, it's just a guess, but there will be a reason and I can kinda understand why they have a hard-rule on it otherwise people will just change to what's best for them and disregard anything else attached to it.

    Re: SCAN/Hexus Free shipping question

Np, shame it wont help though. Also it was only intended as a one time give them the money to buy it sort of solution anyway.

I understand the issues they have too, I only really joined here for some advice and to check out the forums a few days ago and was pretty surprised to find I could qualify for free shipping the next day. I got a lot of answers really quickly and needless to say I'll be sticking around now, but it must create a lot of problems with junk posts and the like. I'm actually quite surprised they didn't make the minimum qualifying membership period longer to be honest, if it was a fortnight after qualifying instead of next day it would probably put off people only signing up for the shipping. *shrug*

    Re: SCAN/Hexus Free shipping question

OK, well I aint losing any sleep here, or getting angry/emotional/suicidal over this.

I have recently used the AVForums free delivery to purchase a new PC bundle from Scan, so they already have my custom, as they have had several times thus far.

I actually found Hexus shortly afterwards while I was looking for advice on OC with a mind to spending extra cash on either air or water cooling.

When google pointed me in this direction, yes I saw the Scan link. However the posts I have placed thus far have been relevant and not junk IMHO (OK, maybe not the one where someone was asking "what's you favourite word?").
That said I did place more that I normally would do because the 20 post limit, but quite frankly Scan set the rules, and if they are there then people will follow them. If they set the rules as say 20 posts and 6 months membership, maybe they would less junk.
Also, I don't understand why the same rules don't apply for the two forums, or why you can't close an account should you desire.
I fully expect if I ask to close my current Scan account I will lose all ability to get free delivery via either forums link - so I won't bother.

At the end of the day its going to mean that the two fans and the fan controller I was going to buy from Scan, I can get slightly cheaper elsewhere - so its a loss of custom for them.

    No tears here - promise.
