Why would one buy through Amazon from Scan

I posted this because of a question raised by another poster which made me wonder if the i5 4690K would be cheaper that way
Actual costs - ignoring free delivery

    Scan direct £178.98 + £4.57 delivery
    Via Amazon £189.36 + £5.28 delivery

I'm guessing it's because you then get to go through Amazon's payment system.

Re: Why would one buy through Amazon from Scan

I'm guessing it's because Amazon marketplace traders would have to follow Amazon's customer service policies which means you should expect better levels of customer care through Amazon than you would get directly from the seller.

Re: Why would one buy through Amazon from Scan

The difference is down to the additional charges that Amazon levy for listing things.

If you know about the scan website, you should always use that really as the amazon section is really designed to help bring new traffic from the Amazon website and for those that didn't know we existed.

    Best Regards,

Re: Why would one buy through Amazon from Scan

I can't recall what it was... an H100 spare bracket set, I think... but it was insanely expensive on the Scan shop page and about half the price (including postage) from Scan's Amazon shop!!

Not the first time, either, as I originally found Scan years ago when seeking a CM Storm Inferno. IIRC, it was abouut £45 +P&P from Scan direct and £28 incl. P&P from ScanAmazon...

Re: Why would one buy through Amazon from Scan

For new customers who haven't heard of medium or smaller sized companies, going through Amazon or eBay Shops can be a safer approach. But as Ttaskmaster said I've seen cases where going through a third party seller is actually cheaper than going direct. That said, I've sold things myself cheaper on Amazon because their fees aren't quite as heinous as the likes of eBay etc.

This happens with scan and their eBay account sometimes, or sometimes the same price but free delivery.

Use up amazon points ? do they still have them ?

Some ppl just use amazon, I expect scan are happy with the traffic.

I used the e-bay site to buy from scan a while back because I wanted to clear some stuff from an account only linked with them.

Exactly this. You have another level of dispute resolution in case you have problems with the seller. Same reason people use Paypal, in fact you can use both at the same time (using the Paypal debit card).

So if you used both via a credit card your avenue for pursuing your consumer rights would ultimately go:

    Scan computers directly
    Amazon A-Z guarantee
    Paypal dispute resolution
    VISA/Mastercard chargeback scheme
Credit provider's joint and several liability under the Consumer Credit Act
    Trading Standards enforcement
    Small Claims Court

Whereas if you were to purchase from Scan directly using a debit card your recourse would only be:

    Scan computers directly
    VISA/Mastercard chargeback scheme
    Trading Standards enforcement
    Small Claims Court
