What is the return policy for unwanted items

I have recently bought from Scan an item that is still in the DPD packaging unopened what is the policy regarding returning/refunding an unwanted item? Is it 28 days? Scan should really make this clearer on their Returns page

You mean like in the clearly marked 'rights of cancellation' section of the terms and conditions?

So 14 days from the day of delivery?
It should really be under the Returns link not hidden away in T&Cs

Sorry to disagree with you but there is a general expectation that people will read the T's & C's before registering with an online shopping site (though it is common knowledge that this is rarely the case) as during the sign up process you will usually have to tick a box to show that you have read and agree to that company's T's and C's. This means that you have every opportunity to understand what the company will do for you (ie provide goods or a service) and what is expected of you before they will comply with their requirements (ie pay for the goods or service) and how the company will respond in the case of you changing your mind, receiving faulty goods or needing to deal with a warranty claim.

While it makes sense to put the information in the Returns Link it is essential that it goes into the T's & C's so that retailers can show that they are complicit with their legal obligations by outlining how they will observe and protect your statutory rights and what voluntary codes they follow that, in many cases, go above and beyond your basic statutory rights.

Actually it is the case that this common bit of knowledge is the very reason consumer protection laws have been updated.
If a company rejects a claim and points to the small print the consumer has rights to appeal. By and large, the burden is still on companies to show that they did everything they could to flag the main snags and catches with their product at the time it was bought. Burying traps in the small print is not considered to be treating your customer fairly.

Either way, wouldn't really hurt to have the details in both places.

It's always 14 days for online purchases. But I don't think it covers software.
