Does that mean there will be a cheap 'b grade' for sale soon then?

i would personally say that 256mb on a normal 6600 is not worth it!
    for a 6600gt maybe,
for instance the 9800pros mainly had 128s
most of the 6600gts on sale have 128mb
    the 6800le and 6800 vanillas have 128mb
the x800s and 6800 gts and ultras have 256, but they may use it, my point

the 6600 normal will probably not use the memory, it is a luxury you dont need to pay for, 128 should suffice for the next few years on the medium spec cards, the mem just bumps up the price!!! y did nvidia even think of selling fx5500s etc with 256mb of ram???

ian (hope that helps you, but i dont want to ruin anything!)

    Because big numbers sell.

But I do agree that 256MB is probably not required - if you ever run a game on that high settings that you do need the extra RAM, the rest of the card will probably slow it down! Shame you can't get a 6800 with 256MB at such a low price as the 128MB version!

As hinted at earlier in this thread... If this 256MB plain 6600 has a decent mem clock I would be asking about the availability and price of the 128MB version... As for not needing 256MB on anything but a high end GFX card - probably not at the moment... Depends on how soon games need the memory (how soon they drop the lower settings I suppose)... Though perhaps mem size will be less of an issue as cards progress more down the shader route rather than just detailed textures and bump maps, etc

The GT's have come down in price haven't they? Thought the XFXs were close to £150 last time I looked...?
