    Used 6800GT?

    Hi all, first time post

I've just had delivered a Galaxy 6800GT bought as a new item. There was no shrink wrap around the box and the anti static bag had already been opened (the seal was broken).

Scan have been good and said that they would replace it immediately but also mentioned that I could try it and if the card was ok I could keep it. They did say that sometimes packaging was opened to check the item spec and it may have happened in this case.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? I'm a bit wary as I've just RMA'd a card back to Dabs for the same reason so it's disappointing that it's happened again with a different retailer.

Should I just send it back for a refund and look elsewhere? The card doesn't show obvious signs of use but the packaging certainly does.

    Thanks

    Rusty

You wouldn’t believe the amount of stuff that comes direct from the factory like that. The number of things we get at my work that have had seals broken and are direct from the manufacturer is amazing. If it doesn’t show signs of use, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
However, if you’re not happy, im sure they’ll sort it for you. Their ace with customer service

The card will not have been used that i can assure you off, like agent said stock does sometimes come like that direct from suppliers, however in a few cases then the stock may have been opened to get specs and content of the cards, all i would say is that if you have recieved the card in the last 7 working days and you do want to return it then by all means give us a ring back and we will replace it. i can only appolgise for the mix up but either way we will rectify it for you.

Well thank you for the prompt responses guys, I'm grateful.

Steve, the card was received this morning at work and checked maybe an hour after receipt. If you sure it hasn't been used then I'll give it a try tonight when I get home and if all's well there shouldn't be a problem.

The experience I had with Dabs was slightly different, the card fan had a hefty coating of dust which indicated that it had been used for some time, someone could have previously overclocked the life out of it for all I knew.

    Thank you

Just to keep you updated on this, after agonising over what to do eventually I did decide to RMA the card for a "new" one. Not because I doubted the views expressed here but simply because on the rare occasions that I spend that much on a graphics card I do want to be absolutely sure that it's factory fresh.

I guess I'm just a cautious consumer, if I was in the PC component trade and experienced this all the time then I'm sure I'd see things differently.

Very impressed with Scan's CS, didn't have to wait too long for the call to be answered and the CS guy dealt with it politely and quickly (didn't get his name unfortunately). It'll be collected tomorrow.

What a nice change to be able to speak to someone.

    Thank you
