Yeah, PayPal has refunded me now. Scan was supposed to report to PayPal that they had received it so that the refund can be issued and for the case to be closed, but they didn't. I had to nudge PayPal letting them know that the tracking information show that they received it. I had no choice but to pay for the shipping cost, otherwise if I didn't return in back to SCAN within 10 days the dispute would be closed in their favor.
All in all the whole ordeal has been infuriating, i'm considering if its worth the hassle reporting them to trading standards just for the fact they were trying to fob me off and being uncooperative.

This isnt a great light they're painting themselves in. Hopefully someone from Scan gets back to you on here or via email and rectifies this debacle.
Re: First purchase from SCAN and the product arrived damaged
Never received a damaged item from scan but have done from overclockers before, they provided prepaid return label and sent replacement straight away.
Honestly I would have expected scan to do the same given their high delivery charge and big online PC retailer status. Did you actually request an RMA formally through their form in this case or just contact them via email for a resolution?

Contacted them using the returns form and got a email from them the next day asking to send them images of the damage. Sent file attachments of the damage and didn't hear from them.

You know you can claim upto £15 for return postage from PayPal now?
You have to take a photo of the item with the return address clearly visible and a photo of the proof of postage.
You also have to activate it in your account if you haven't already.
I just got £15 return postage back from PayPal for a seller asking me to return something to China, probably hoping I wouldn't send it back due to the cost.

Yeah I knew about that, I applied and uploaded my postage receipt but unfortunately PayPal declined it. This is the response I got from them:
"We have carefully reviewed your return shipping cost refund request. Unfortunately your claim has NOT met the minimum requirements laid out in our terms and conditions. Your claim is for the return of faulty or damaged goods. Generally, where goods are being returned as either faulty or damaged, the seller is obligated to assume the cost of the return. More information can be found in the Consumer Rights Act 2015 available here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...0150015_en.pdf under section 20 item 8 (Right to reject)."
So if the seller is obligated to assume the cost of return, why didn't they tell SCAN to send me a returns label? but instead told me to pay for the cost (£20) of the return postage? makes no sense. At this point i'm not gonna argue with PayPal over this, they were pretty helpful in forcing SCAN to refund me. I think next time if i'm buying anything over £100 i'll use a credit card for the section 75 protection.

Ah man, thats frustrating!
Did you get a replacement/refund?
Re: First purchase from SCAN and the product arrived damaged
That's a worrying experience, under consumer laws they should have refunded the postage costs, I would certainly have pushed this. EVEN IF you didn't report within 48 hours, you have a much longer period of time to report this under consumer rights, which are above any "terms and conditions"
