    256MB ScanFX PCI-E GF7800GT - opinions please

    Hi

    256MB ScanFX PCI-E *Extreme Edition* GF7800GT *450 Core 1.05Ghz Mem* (256bit) ViVo 2xDVI

I am interested in this graphics card.
Is there any further information available on it?
    Any onlines reviews?

I would be interested to read the views of anyone who has bought one of these cards.

    Thanks

Basically it will be an XFX or another brand but won't be in a retail box - it will be white boxed

    Thanks alot for your replies.

Please could you explain exactly what the difference is between OEM and retail?

I was reccomended to stay away from OEM products.
The difference between the cards is £24 .

    Cheers

    Hi

The ScanFX "OEM" card comes without the games, However you do get the cables and DVI convertors.

There is no reason to stay away from the "OEM" products as the units are exactly the same as you would get as a "RETAIL", the only thing they do it cut down the contents ie games manuals etc, that is why the price is lower. The content is lower on the "OEM" but not the QUALITY

    Regards

    Hope that helps

    Hi

    Thanks that does help.
I am on a tight budget.

I was told that OEM products were untested.
    Is this true?

    Cheers

How does the warranty vary from oem and retail. I thought oem was just 28days warranty were as retail is the full shabang.

Also I bought a XFX7800gtx on 22June, Now I here XFX cards come with LifeTime warranty, will mine have lifetime warranty as well?

I've also read a review that said that the XFX 7800GT is a very noisy card.

OEM should certainly not carry just 28days warranty. Must be a year at least, though, more likely the same as retail (but can be less).

Main difference between OEM and retail, as stated above, is simply packaging/manuals. (Aimed at system builders who dont need the packaging/manuals, and save a few bob too)

    Hi

Nope the "OEM" cards hold a full 1 yrs warranty, not 28 days.

    Hi,

I'm interested in this card for a new system, and from reading the previous posts in this thread i understand this is an OEM card, and therefore comes with reduced packaging and no games.

Could someone tell me what sort of manuals it comes with, if any.

    Many thanks.

    hehe - manual??

Download latest official nvidia drivers and put them in an accessable place (I leave them on the desktop)

Uninstall your video card drivers in winblow$, run "driver cleaner" in safe mode and do another clean for your video drivers.

Unplug current PCI-E card, plug in 7800GT (including PCI-E power dongle), turn on compy, boot into winblow$, install drivers you've handily got on your desktop, reboot and play some awesome looking games

Simple as that mate. Retail cards hardly come with in depth instructions

    Thanks for the advice

Sounds fairly easy, I was only after a manual as I'm kinda new at the system building thing, and thought I'd need as much help as possible!

Sounds pretty straight forward though, so thanks, I'll give it a go!
