    Chameleon case and Mobo

    First off, hello all !

Thought I would post here as peeps from Scan seem quite active in here.

As discussed in previous threads theres a problem with using the latest ASUS
motherboards in the Chameleon case (the TJ06 I think) because the motherboard is' upside down' and this prevents the heatpipe from working properly.

Are there any plans to use a different case? to be honest I dont know why the TJ06 was used anyway, its just not big enough and was designed for optimum *air* cooling, anyone buying a chameleon is going to opt for water cooling. Surely something like the CM Stacker would be way better? Its got so much more space inside, seems like a much more practical choice and as far as I know the motherboard is installed 'the right way up' meaning you would not have to compromise with the motherboard. By the looks of things you wont be able to use the new A8N32-SLI either as this also uses heatpipes.

I am getting quotes for a new machine at the moment, Chameleon was at the top of my list as I have bought a machine from SCAN recently and was very impressed with the service. The choice of case though, is putting me right off, too many compromises (mobo, problems at back of case because of the big fan cage, looks like it will be v hard to do any upgrades etc etc). Very interested to hear what the guys at Scan have to say on this, cheers n that.

    Paul.

    Hi Ditchy

I've spoken to the systembuild team about this issue and they have stated that they have gone back to using the "deluxe" and not the premium motherboard due to the issue with the heatpipe solution being inverted and not supporting the capillary action, with the deluxe having an active cooling solution ( i.e posh word for a fan )

As for the A8N32-SLI, they've not tested that hardware as yet so I cannot comment until it passes their tests to see if it will be suitable for that case or system.

    Best Regards,

    Best Regards,
Thanks for the reply Lee. Yeah I noticed they have gone back to the deluxe model, thats the compromise I was referring to, its simply not the best available, that would have been the premium and now the A8N32-SLI. If it was just differences in the cooling method it wouldnt really matter, but there are other differences, such as the digital SLI switch and the full 16x lanes for both gfx cards on the A8N32-SLI.

Hya, thanks again for the reply, the A8N32-SLI wont be affected by the same problem then? it uses heatpipes too I thought? Anyway I will hold off buying anything until you guys have done your testing! Any idea of how long it might be? I want to get a machine ordered asap before the christmas rush!

We're expecting the boards within about a week or 2 according to our asus rep who was in the latter half of last week. As soon as they've tested and seen the boards I'll let you know if they plan to use this in an inverted system case like the chameleon

I'm sure the guys may be able to change the case if you ask nicely
Out of curiosity are you opting for the Heat reactive paint & mod on the case or are you gonna stick with the standard case finish?

Just the standard case I am afraid, I just cant justify paying that much for a paint job (£960!) although it does look awesome. I might have been tempted if it was a different case, one I could keep using for a few years. I dont really like the case they are using, as I said above its just not a practical choice for a machine like this.....at least not for the water cooled option. You need something BIIIG with tons of space inside...CM Stacker or one of the bigger LianLi cases. So sorry, no paint job for me!

    Paul.

    P.S.

Oh....well scan chappys....*can* you use a different case??
