    Question RMA Opteron?

I bought an opteron 146 on the 1st of November and Im sure it is faulty. For a few weeks ive been getting increasingly numerous random blue screens with error message Machine_check_exception, ive swapped most of the other parts with others with no change but yesterday i have borrowed my friends opteron 146 and Ive not had one error - I usually get blue screen every half hour. I know these retail versions carry a 3 year warranty, do i take it back to the shop or do I have to return it to AMD ? Also as you dont have them in stock anymore what will happen ?

Is it overclocked at all? My winchester used to throw that error if got a bit toasty, so it might eb worth checking your heatsink is seated right. Have you changed back to your opteron to see if reseating solves it?

I know theyre fairly simply things to check, i arent trying to be insulting, just trying to save you some hassle and whatever the NFF fee is.

EDIT: Have you tried running memtest86 to eliminate the memory as the fault? If you can reliably reproduce a bug i imagine the RMA process would go a lot smoother.
