    Cable question.

LN8981 ATX PSU Power Convertor Cable 24 pin into 20 pin (24 pin into 20 pin motherboard power connector) this one

With reference to above product how wide is the retaining clip in mm please? I got a Seasonic PSU from you but it will not fit my M/B because - it has a capacitor jamed next to the connector (ASUS A7V133).

Looks like my old PSU's retaining clip is about 2or3mm wide - just a guess I cannot root around too much as the PC is still on

    2 more questions..
If I ordered just this would it be sent via Royal mail (hope so)
Do you have a minimum spend on a credit card (eg £5 or anything like that)

    Thanks

I don't want to end up doing something stupid here, I wouldn't want a 2 pound cable sent citylink. (especially if I'm not pay for delivery - I'd feel bad about it)

Minimum recomended value for free carriage is around £20.

If you contact sales on the main line, they may be able to sort out posting a cable.

Perhaps not the most ideal solution, and you may well have thought about it already, but could you not just file a bit off of the retaining clip?

I don't want to 'butcher' the PSU connector, I want to check it's not DOA, if I needed to return it I think Scan would not be impressed. I would 'butcher' a 2 pound cable.

I've read a 'paper clip' test which I cannot bring myself to do, I've got a gut feeling I connect the wrong bits and fry it.

... I'll try a few local stores ... waste a few days ... get paid ... then convince myself to buy some more bits for my master plan instead of paying for christmas. If anyone is bored details of the 'master plan' are here ... and I'll probably forget to order the cable

Correction 'master plan' should read 'plan'

The paper clip test really is quite easy, but I understand your reluctance. FYI, Scan now do an Enermax PSU Tester, rather handy if you need to check these things regularly. I bought one myself this week and it seems rather good at finding out the basic "Does the damn thing work" question. Obviously it won't measure the quality of the PSU (Voltages within acceptable levels etc) but for what it cost me (about £7) it's saved me a lot of paperclips.

Thanks for the info FatalSaviour, I found the connecter I was after in a Local shop for a 98p (boy does it look cheap, the wires are noticeably thinner than the ones from the PSU)

...anyroad the PSU works! now I'm off to do a system transplant.
