    Arrow S/PDIF Out Modules...

LN6194 and LN9830 are both listed as SPDIF out modules that may work with other motherboards... will either of these let me use optical out with an Asus A8N-VM-CSM board?

    Cheers,

    Suman

The pin setup and plug shape is different but it's not hard to change.

The Gigabyte ones tend to be 6 or 8 pins in a rectangular 2 strip of pins shape. The Asus board is one line of pins using 3 out of 4 holes. Download the relevant motherboard manuals and you should be able to work out the pin settings.

From memory one of the CD audio out cables plastic plug is the correct size to use.

Sorry that may have been a little unclear. The cable that comes with most DVD drives to supply audio to a motherboard or soundcard actually fits the Asus connection. Just pop it off with a pin or very small screwdriver and use that to connect up the relevant pins from the Gigabyte bracket.

The Asus manual says it needs 3 connections via a 4 pin plu but the ground and spdifout are enough for the coaxial output (maybe even the optical?). If the optical doesn't work just hook the 3 pin into the end power slot (pay attention to the layout on page 1-25 of the Asus manual).

I think a Gigabyte manual like the k8n51pvmt9 would give you the correct 6 pin layout but obviously any spdif in won't work.

Gotcha, thanks for the tip with the CD audio cable the Asus specific one is about £11 so obviously the Gigabyte one works out a lot cheaper!

    Cheers,
