Return - Have RMA
Hi,
I bought some RAM from scan last week, and it was faulty, Ive gone through the email returns query system, and got an RMA number.
Ill take the memory back to scan on monday since I picked it up in person anyways, but I dont have the orginal packaging, thats long gone (binned it :embarrassed:), not expecting the RAM to be faulty.
If i bring the RAM back in an Anti-Static Bag am I likely to be charged a restocking fee?
The ram is: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=291363

Hi
Providing the RAM when returned is tested and confirmed to be faulty it will not be a problem for us to refund it without packing. Only items returned without fault require the packing to be returned also to obtain a refund.
Hope this helps

Ahh thats okay then. You might have been the Mark I emailed from scan about the fault - a "Mark R"
Anyways Ill hi-jack my own thread and ask if you know when its going to be in stock again ?

Hi,
Right, I got the ram replaced, and the guy at scan who served me dropped it, but not far on to the desk. I placed the ram in the system and it showed up fine on boot (as 3GB), now when Ive come in to windows its only showing 2.75GB (- I bought a 1GB stick from pc "rip off" world to actually use the pc & have it as stable...) So far its been alot more stable than the memory I had before, untill 5 mins ago when I went to play HL2:Episode 1 and the system crashed. The last time it did that was with the last lot of ram I had from scan.
Do I need to do another RMA form to return it, or can I just return to scan and get my money back - first time ive had a major problem with a scan product :(
The memory has been out of stock for the last few weeks (according to the website). yet they managed to give me some on monday

Are you running windows xp 32 bit? think it can only address 2.75GB or something

post in hard stuff how to solve that issue. The instability maybe caused by this. Or the fact you have unmatched sticks of memory which is not ideal
-
Mmmm, following up with what charltonfan says, I'd try the new matched pair on their own and see how it turns out.
Maybe run memtest 86 on that RAM, then try again with the extra gig and run memtest on that too.

Hi
If the original memory purchased was less than 28 days old then we would be able to issue a refund for the memory, however if the original invoice date is much older than this then we would be able to offer a replacement for the memory only.
Also after checking it seems that Windows XP 32bit can address only 3.5GB RAM approximatley in total anything over this and you may run into problems.

As an additional comment, some motherboards go up to 4Gib in slot space and banks but can only physically address 3.75 Gib without a workaround in the bios.
Asus do this workaround on some boards, dunno about other manufactuireres
