    Tagan RMA issue.

Hi, ive got a question about RMAing my 480W Tagan TG480-U01 power supply.

First, some background. I bought the PSU in March 2004 and when it arrived i was dissapointed to find it had some scratch marks along one of the edges where the case comes apart, and the 'warranty void if removed' seal was broken (Click the thumbnail below for a closeup). I didnt particularly care about the scratches as they are small but i was concerned about the warranty of my PSU, particularly with it being an expensive PSU with a long 3yr warranty period.

I immediately logged a query on the website about this, and was given the explanation (see picture above) that the units had to be open to replace EU power leads with UK power leads, and that my warranty with scan would be upheld. It seemed a bit of an odd explanation, particularly as i didnt recieve any power lead, but it said my warranty was good so that was fair enough, i figured i never need to use it anyway, but...

As youve no doubt already figured out, if only becaues it was the first thing i said heh, i now want to use the warranty. The problem i have is that it is making a constant ticking noise. I dont know how long its been doing it, ive never really noticed it and the computer it was in was a server box stuck out of the way which was never off so the noise woulda been drowned out by fans and hard drives anyway. But ive just started using it in my browsing etc comp, which is off quite a lot and whenever it is off i can hear this litle kackle coming from the PSU. I dont know if its indicative of a serious problem but its certainly getting annoying and incase it does signal impending doom i want it sorted out, hence dilema.

On checking the product listing for the PSU on the scan website, it says Tagan PSUs are to be returned directly to a company called Nanopoint. However if i RMA it to them isnt there a good chance they will turn round and say its void ? I dont want to be without the PSU as well as going to the expense (the thing weighs a tonne so its going to cost a lot to post) of sending it away only to get nowhere. Is it possible for me to RMA it to scan instead, or can you provide me some sort of assurance Nanopoint wont shaft me ?

    Thanks, Robbie.

Tagan recently put a statement regarding the 'ticking' noise Here

However, if you log a query with the returns team Here outlining what you have put above or even linking to it, they would be in a better position to advise you accordingly.

    Best Regards,

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Intersting statement that, as my other Tagan doesnt tick and i cant say any other PSU ive had has done so.

I contacted the returns team and was advised to just phone Nanopoint and explain everything as above then see what they say, and get back to you guys if i have a problem with them. Ill get to that the next day ive got time

Just thought id keep yous updated on here

Just got off the phone with Nanopoint, didnt go very well, so as advised ive sent a note back to the returns guys regarding my query

Hi. I have contacted Tagan/Nanopoint today on 0870 1620 818 as advised and began to explain the situation.

As soon as I reached the point that the warranty sticker was broken at the time i recieved the unit and i had immediately notified Scan to that effect and been advised my warranty would be honoured (see response to my query at the time: ), the person I spoke with at Tagan/Nanopoint said they cant deal with me directly as the warranty sticker shouldnt be broken, and that I would need to have Scan contact them regarding it.

I settled for the explanation given to me at the time for the sticker being broken as I didnt know the RMA process would later involve a 3rd party (there was no mention of direct RMAs to Nanopoint at that time) and took the situation to be that there was no problem for me to return the PSU to Scan if i ever needed to. Evidently I now do have a problem as the RMAs have become direct, and Nanopoint dont want to know.

    Please advise,

    Robbie

Id just like to say thanks for getting this sorted for me phillip, excellent response all round i must say whether here or on the scan query system, really didnt expect to get a phonecall earlier hehe. It makes the difference that you guys are so eager to help and even just having this forum here is a step beyond most of the competition - if you mention shop matters on certain other companies forums they just get vanished

Just one thing though, I havent recieved an RMA number even though the call was at 1.30pm. Didnt want to ask too soon incase it was just taking its time but its getting on now and id like to get it packed up and ready to go ASAP, sooner it goes the sooner i get the replacement back
