Question Thecus YES nano N1050 Information please

Thecus YES nano N1050 Black USB2 2.5" Ext Storage with OTG (On The Go) USB & AA Battery
    Product Code: LN13629

Just noticed this on your website and it seems a bargain as a MIXIT offer for a 80GB hdd, enclosure and built in OTG box. (Would save me loads if I had got these separately with the creative drive...)

Anyone, could someone please answer a few "quick" questions.....

    * What type of file structure does it use? For example if I transfer 2 files from camera A with filenames IMG001.jpg, IMG002.jpg and another file from camera B, filename of IMG001.jpg
Will this overwrite the existing one, or does it create a new folder for each backup(?)
    * What happens if you use a AA battery and its runs out whilst transferring?
Does it continue where it left off when you replace the batteries or does it restart the transfer?

    * What type of USB connection is on it for external devices such as cameras (Type A?)
    * It's mentioned that a PSU is supplied, but are all the cables required?
    * Does the AA battery fit inside the case, or is it like some Sony minidisc player, where a battery attachment is provided and used?

    * And finally do 2.5" hard drives get hot after use?

    Cheers

Not sure I'll maybe have to try that one tonight and let you know. I suspect it will overwrite the existing files.......

Does it continue where it left off when you replace the batteries or does it restart the transfer?:
It may corrupt the file that was copying at the time but not on the source device. Thats it really and no damage done

    Its the big size?

All cables for powering are supplied.

Battery attachment is supplied (ie external). A case is supplied with the Thecus which allows you to house the unit and the cables.

Yes - but as long as its not used in a high temperature environment I dont really see much of an issue here.

Just to be very cheeky, any ideas how long the battery lasts for? I know my camera goes through 2 batteries a time every 40-50 photos (not good when I'm on holiday so I took 20 2300mah rechargeables and a 1 hour charger on my last holiday!)

I'll see if thecus know of the battery life, but I think the numbers are going to be dependant on how much data is transfered etc.

As for power on the move for it and your camera - why not check the following item here

Hmm, nice item although this would surely add a substantial amount of weight when I'm walking around in the topical sun in the Summer holidays.... Also it would have to dangle from the camera unless it attaches to the bottom of the camera say through the tripod conection? Although I do tend to use a tripod now and then too...

Agh sorry workaholic - didnt log onto the PC last night and fogot all about testing out the file thing on the thecus.

I'm playing golf tonight (probably - however this may well be dependent on the weather.....) so I may not be able to put an answer on tonight either.

Maybe someone else could help a little quicker - if not I'll post as soon as I can (and of course thats also when I remember).

    Apologies again!

    Hi,

The following is the answers we got from thecus ::

    * What type of file structure does it use? For example if I transfer 2 files from camera A with filenames IMG001.jpg, IMG002.jpg and another file from camera B, filename of IMG001.jpg

Will this overwrite the existing one, or does it create a new folder for each backup(?)

Every time an OTG copy is being made, N1050 will create a new folder, so it will not overwrite the existing files.

    * What happens if you use a AA battery and its runs out whilst transferring?

Does it continue where it left off when you replace the batteries or does it restart the transfer?

When the battery runs out, the copy process stops at the file being copied at that moment. After you replace the battery and do the OTG copy again, N1050 will create a new folder and copy the whole content again.

    * What type of USB connection is on it for external devices such as cameras (Type A?)

Yes, it is using USB type A.

    * Does the AA battery fit inside the case, or is it like some Sony minidisc player, where a battery attachment is provided and used?

AA battery fit inside the case. you need to buy extra AA battery.

Ok thanks all for the quick answers...

However I have *hopefully* the final answer

Regarding this technical specification information: LED/NEON Lights: X
Does that refer to a modded case/neon light or does it mean there are no busy LEDs... (if so how would I know when the transfer has finished?)

Sorry the answer around the AA batteries is rubbish - the AA batteries fit into a separate battery pack.

I was about to post about the files not being overwritten but it looks like I got beaten to it!

It has led lights for power/copy (light on and flashes with activity), error, and drive full

Battery life will also depend on the drive used as well as the amount of files copied as different drives have different power requirements

btw, it will quite happly run on 1 usb connection only from most pc's and even my ibook - and that's with a 100GiB 7200 rpm drive..

Can somebody advise me please? I recently purchased one of the Thecus Yes nano's, and I'm trying to format it as a photobank using Fat 32. Unfortunately its not appearing as a drive on My Computer (Windows XP Pro), it does register as a USB mass storage device when I plug it in and switch on though?

    Cheers

    Chris
