Scandalous Shipping Charges

OK I will admit first of all that I am not really a Hexus regular (any more).
I used to, but I moderate somewhere else now and do most of my technical posting there (nothing personal I think this site is superb, especially on the review side).

Recently found a product that is very well priced over at scan, (its a HDMI to DVI 2m cable), priced around 8 quid.

Great I thought until I tried to add it to my basket and you wanted to charge me £7 for carriage. That almost doubles the cost.

There is no alternative shipping method for "security reasons" according to the sales staff. Sorry but thats rubbish, there is nothing unsecure about sending something recorded delivery, or even special delivery if you really must.

So I thought hang on they do free shipping if you are a Hexus member, then I read that you have to order over £20, as some people have been abusing the offer, seems like it is scan abusing the shipping to me.

Just thought I would rant about it, seems like bad service to me.

They have posted numerous times about why they don't use RM. I suggest you do a search. Their reasons are valid.

in all fairness there are much betetr sites if you just want to order 1 cable. i think scan stock them to be added onto aa large order ratehr than for people specifically buying 1 cable.

Yup, I'm sure they welcome all feedback, but ultimately we have the freedom to shop where we like and as posted there are better places to buy small orders from than SCAN. I don't think it's possible to be the ultimate shop that caters for all types of orders and yet also is the most competative for the whole range - it's only natural that different styles suit different philosophies.

Bit unfair there mate :( Scan use who they do for proper reasons

That has to be THE most stupid thing I have read on the net in a long time - to be honest - I am astounded you have the gall to say someone who has gone out of their way to provide for ACTIVE forums members is abusing you???

RM will not be used for many reasons, which are valid and is " not rubbish " and at the end of the day to ensure your delivery arives on time, fully insured and in tip top condition resulting in a good service.

Numerous times I have posted full, valid, detailed reasons why we do not use RM and the reasons for the carriage charges.

May I suggest you search our forum for these posts; alternatively I can PM you if you require

Theoretically if it goes missing via RMRD it isn't classed as "lost" until about 28 days later, so yes its cheaper, but its not as good service.

CityLink charge a fortune (compared to RoyalMail) for shipping and Scan have to cover that cost... A cable isn't going to bring them a big enough margin to cover the costs, so they have to charge for it.

Its not unfair or bad service, thats just how business works I'm afraid.

When you look at the logistics involved in cheap postage its a sound business decision to not use it. Plenty of places to get that cable cheaper postage - but whilst you may save a few quid - your total will be somewhere closer to Scans very low £20 minimum order. Your comments are very derogatory, ill informed & wrong! Please shut door on way out and moderate away.

PS I have a past history of savaging bad customer service from etailers - This is the exact opposite BAD customer feedbback and JUST as wrong!!

I'm not quite sure what point Daniel's making about the free shipping.
It's a superb offer, one that Scan didn't need to extend to us in the first place, and the £20 minimum order value is totally justified tbh.

As an aside, I ordered one of those HDMI>DVI cables...they really are fantastic quality.
Much much better than I was expecting (even though it did say Hi-End :))

But the OP is mistaken if he considers Recorded del as anything that offers extra security - if anything less security as a crooked posty loves them - sees them as a "Please nick me" sticker" Only use for recorded is if recipient is someone you don't trust - else all it does is makes PO more money!
