Trying to find best AGP mainboard and CPU

Hi people, im trying to find out the best mainboard AGP for my 6800gs and the best AMD CPU for around about 150-170 quid. Ive got 512mb 3200 speed memory but i want my 6800gs to do the business a bit more. Also ive got a audigy 4 which is gonna need a much higher FSB than the 100mhz that im gettin at the moment.

    Danny.

Runing 3Dmark03 i get lowish scores on the sound tests, so somebody indicated that the FSB was very low on the motherboard so the soundcard cant use its full potential as i should be gettin high 3dmark sound scores with an audigy 4.

What mobo and cpu do you have at the moment? with conroe and vista and all other nice things coming soon it may be worth while sticking with what you have and doing a full upgrade next year. I would just get another gig of ram, that should improve your performance a lot.

These 2 may not set the world on fire but if you just want a quick upgrade now to get you by until a complete upgrade in the future they should do you fine. Both of them are about £100 so well below your budget.

    Just a thought.

Ive got an ASUS P4R800-VM and a P4 2.8 CPU. It might be the best option to buy 2gb of memory, which leads me onto, if i buy 2gb(2x1gb sticks) of corsair value memory for £110-120 against 2gb (2x1gb) of more expensive ram of say £200 whats the difference going to be?

Hey Barker967, thats just what I'm doing. I was starting to look at building a new PC, and thought with Vista, Conroe and whatever AMD *might* have up their sleeves, it will be worth waiting until next year.

I'm upping my RAM to 2GB, upgrading my gfx card via e-bay, and buying some new storage (its so cheap at the mo).

From what i`ve read if you dont plan on overclocking the cheap ram is absolutley fine, your other upgrades are pretty well worth going for as well, the 3800 is a steal at that price.

One thing to think about is that when conroe comes out (late july possibly) AMD are supposedly going to cut the price of dual core cpu`s by quite a nice margin. So if you are willing to wait that might be a good option.
