    Asrock 775 DUAL-VSTA and 6300

    Hi

Can you advise me if the Asrock 775 DUAL-VSTA boards you have will support the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 out of the box or would it need a bios update?

Considering my first Intel build for a folding rig, therefore I don't have an older P4 to use for bios flashing purposes.

If it would need a bios flash I may as well hold off til more board choice is available.

Similar question regarding the Asrock AR-939DUAL-SATA2

Wondering if your stocks are recent enough to be shipping with an X2 bios.
Can't afford to buy a Venice just to update the bios to support X2.

Sorry for adding second question but considering updating my four DC rigs to dual core.....and if I can get boards that can utilize my older psu's and gpu's so much the better.
    (Can upgrade them later on)

I can confirm the Dual939 works with an X2 from stock - I bought mine from scan last november and it worked out of the box.

I figured it should do as the X2 has been around for quite some time now but best to get confirmation before making a purchasing decision.

    I appreciate the response

OK, anybody know how this would perform using DDR, rather than DDR2 - i.e. how much performance loss (if any) there would be?

I'm looking to upgrade form my SockA/AGP with a CPU/mobo only, and this could be a contender against a 939 X2 and the equivalent ASRock 939DUAL...

I have just checked the board and the BIOS chip has P1.10 stamped on it so this would not support Conroe straight from the box and new BIOS chip / flash would be required. I am trying to get hold of a contact from Asrock at the moment to confirm if they can ship new BIOS chips out for this board.

OK, anybody know how this would perform using DDR, rather than DDR2 - i.e. how much performance loss (if any) there would be?
The increase in performance from DDR1 to DDR2 would be around 3-4%, which is not a huge increase.

    Regards

After a quick search, I found that Anandtech are due to publish a test of exactly this (using this board) very shortly.

I've just installed an E6600 into a brand new Asrock 775Dual-VSTA with bios 1.10, and the machine booted just fine. I immediately flashed it to 1.50, but had no trouble doing so.

For information I was using an AGP graphics card (Radeon 9550), and a single stick of DDR400 memory.
