AHCI Vs IDE
heloo all
i have got the asus p5b deluxe and i,m having all sorts of problems but anyway, i have an option in the bios that says configure sata as IDE, AHCI and raid.
can someone please tell me the difference between the ahci settings and standard ide and is there any benefits for it.
i just tried changing it to AHCI and windows wouldnt boot keep getting BSOD, so its back to default IDE.
i,m not really intersted in raiding.
Thanks

whats the error you get on the BSOD?
I had this recently with a new drive on a windows install, the only way I could get it to install and run was to use an install with SP2 slipstreamed into it.

Its for yuor hardrive configurtion , I think ,in most cases it will be IDE , which is PATA, raid is when you use more than one hardrive which both store the same data and it makes it faster for performance bec ause you will have two caches and the workload decreases on each hardrive and AHCI is for SATA(1 and 2)

I beleive IDE is a compatability mode, AHCI can be better but requires at a minimum, a driver to be installed BEFORE toggling the BIOS option.
Normally, a re-install of Windows will be required for this option.
