    Arctic Cooler 7

I have an arctic cooler 7 with a Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3 motherboard. If I put the Intel stock cooler on the system the fan will spin up as soon as I turn on the system but if I put on the Arctic Cooler 7 the fan only spins sometimes. Is the fan temperature controlled and only spins up when the CPU gets hot or is the fan I have faulty.

You first idea is correct, I have the same fan and MB as you and I too was a little worried at first. Get a game running and then you will see the fan spin up.

Is your CPU a Core 2 Duo? They run really cool and so the HSF doesn't really have to do much work.

Me too and it runs damn cool (I use SpeedFan to monitor it's temp).

maybe this thread should be in the hardstuff forum...

I would say u are fine m8 i have the same cooler and it is way better than the stock cooler, u probably have the gigabyte smartfan option on this controls the running speed of the fans on your pc.

If u want to be sure check your bios configurations there u can also see the CPU temperature.

    Am i doing summat wrong?

I've a Freezer 7 and it seems to be on max fan speed from the second i press the power button...

I've a Pentium D 805 and a Asus P5WD2. I used Speedfan to lower the rpm by 50% so the thing isn't so god-damn noisy! Also, the selectable bios options for the fan speed seem to be along the lines of 1/3/5/100 % with nothing in between?

You have a Pentium D 805. Probably one of the hottest range of CPU's that Intell has ever made. You do not want your fan turning off on that CPU

You're not wrong there, but hell, idle temps of 38o and load of 50o...and thats at 50% fan speed through speedfan! temps aren't the issue here it's the fan speed controller.

Plus when it starts up after sitting off overnight it should be at a good enough temp to start with a lower fan speed? no? I have excellent case airflow and used arctic silver 5?

I've got one of these on an E6300. If I set the BIOS to use 'silent' fan mode, the fan speed is around 730rpm and the BIOS triggers a warning during boot as I assume it doesn't believe it ought to be going so slow! The system is virtually silent (no case fans), the HDD is the noisiest component. After an hour of 100% CPU usage, the temp gets up to around 35 deg C

I have this cooler and an E6600 overclocked at 2.7 so far. Mobo is P5B. With the ASUS AI Gear thing on highest the fan goes around 3000rpm and i get 48c idle temps, with AI gear anything less than top the fan goes around 1000c and im idling about 58! Don't know how people have overclocked to 3.3ghz on air!

Have to see what happens when i get my fan controller and sharkoon case fans.
