    Channel 5 - The Gadget Show - 23/10/2006

As some of you are aware, last night on the gadget show they had a little challenge for the presenter who had 500 pounds to get a system.

1 of them opted for an off the shelf system, while the other was built using components.

You can see the brief write-up of the section of the show HERE

On that link to the channel 5 website is all the information regarding parts used, build information and also what parts were used to build the system.

    Very nice

Shocking how much you have to drop to get below 500 quid though - small increases in budget really pay dividends around this range.

you are evidently very pleased with the performance of the parts provided by you and was also a bit of free advertising.

I was quite taken aback when I saw it - I record TGS because it's so full of rubbish normally but when they picked a DECENT supplier (my fave!) I nearly choked on my kebab Shame the rest of the program was dross as per usual.. Thank god for Sky+ and 16X FF!

I didn't realise the graphics card was responsible for stuff like applying filters in photoshop and encoding movies.

I was watching last night aswell and i thought "hey that's scans listing!". Not bad, nice promo for scan too!

I still think it's a bit over the top to say straight out "building from scratch is far better" because it all depends on what the buyer wants really!

I agree - if someone asks me for a cheap PC to surf/email with then TBH a dell system on offer is hard to resist..
