RMA/Warranty Question
A few days ago my PC stopped booting up from being normal before that. Anyway, I took out all the components and tried them individually with the CPU and RAM only and it turns out the graphics card has somehow decided to end it's life early.
I bought the item on November 15th 2005 which is close to a year - would I be affected at all by going over the milestone, as I flagged the problem to Scan yesterday?
Not had a reply as yet though don't expect to until Monday, but because the card was one of the rare 7800 GTX 512's (XFX XXX) and cost a staggering 525 quid I fear that I won't get as good a deal as someone who bought a cheaper, more readily available card.
Any thoughts?

your well past the stage where you could ask for refund, they are obliged to send out the same card again or better than if they couldnt supply the same card to you. at the end of the day you cant expect a £525 card in return as you well know they cost a lot less now, it wont cost anything to RMA via scan due to there pickup service.
you could email XFX and see what they would do about it, who knows if they dont stock them now you may get a 7900GTX XXX to replace it, or a 7950 if your lucky, its pot luck though and your at the mercy of there supply room.
i dare say all scan would do in the event they dont stock them (they dont) is RMA it back to XFX for you and then forward on whatever they send back.
always hurts when you buy something, then it drops 20% the week after :(

would the same apply for me as well then? The SATA HDD I got that was corrupting my windows upon install is definately furbared, my friend tested it in a system test rig and it failed as well.
Put a different SATA HDD in the machine today in the shop and it began to install windows fine but after the install it rebooted and wouldn't finish so now atm its being looked into. I guess I got struck bad on two accounts. Dodgy HDD and incompatible RAM.
Scan should be able to do a pick-up service for me as well I hope? I intend to flag both those parts either tomorrow or monday, after I get the PC sorted out.

I seriously doubt SCAN would do a 'pick-up' as i dont think ANY UK companies do.
Also, for the other poster, there is NO WAY you will get £525 back.
The i would think, would be replaced or repaired as you are well outside the 28 day like-for-like warranty.
If they cant achieve that i would imagine you will get a partial refund with depreciative value.

Well I hope they do and FYI Special-Tech do pick up if your RMA order is too heavy/costs too much to post.

scan do pickup, city-link come round and collect the item from you on scans behalf, i have used that service twice now :)

I never really expected to get every penny back for my purchase. I wouldn't like to think though that I might have to wait many weeks if it's sent off to XFX for repair due to the rarity of the product even with XFX!
I do hope that there will be a sensible outcome for this however and will await their reply ;)
