I have the Asus P5B Deluxe purchased 5-6 weeks ago. This board is meant to be of high quality but while the last time i used recently it i heard a loud pop and my xp froze up. I have now confirmed the board is faulty the fans spin up and the asus logo on the board lights up but no post. I suspect a capacitor exploded due to the loud pop. I understand this board has high quality polymer capacitors so if it is a faulty capacitor am disappointed. I am a enthusiast and i removed the regular heatsink on the northbridge and replaced the theral paste with better quality artic silver 5 thermal paste and a better quality heatsink to give it lower temperatures.
I like to RMA this board but i dont have the original heatsink pipe that goes with it. I felt confident this board would last me and i disposed of the asus heatpipe and put a superior heatsink in place that the heatpipe wasnt needed going to the heatsink. The fault wasnt down to not having adequate cooling i had more superior cooling. Is it still possible to RMA the board without this heatpipe?
