We can't associate them unfortunately as we are not allowed to sell the software until the 30th.

The OEM licence of Vista can be purchased with a 99p mouse, this is classed as a hardware purchase so not an issue really.
Got to love ms for forcing people to buy extra mice.

Are you going to be stocking lots on the 30th as I'd like to buy a copy from you and I don't want to miss out on the first batch?

I'd really like to be able to preorder it from you so its all setup ready for the end of the month.

Vista OEM - is a typical Ms product - the licence is horrendous - once installed u can activate it - if you change the motherboard - ur Vista OEM is worthless and cannot be activated again

if you dont believe it - ask Ms ........ Vista retail allows you a few more upgrades - but apparently the motherboard is an area of change that kills the licence......

Yeah Agreed.. Is Vista OEM going to be 2 user maximum as standard (Like XP Pro SP2 OEM was) or 1, because if it's 2, I can afford to buy it for my computer and my dad's... otherwise I won't be going Vista for quite a while.

What you're essentially trying to do is cheat the system. If that's the way you want to work, you buy retail. That's what it's for.

OEM is for single systems and you can only buy either 32-bit or 64-bit per license.

Retail is the normal license, and is for as many PCs as you wish (provided only 1 system at a time) within reason (obviously 100+ reinstalls per month, and MS is going to hit you). You get both 32-bit and 64-bit in the same package, covered under the same license.

I think it's still 3+ major component changes (HDD, graphics card, CPU, RAM, etc) on both licenses before a reactivation is required.

I'm intersted in the OEM version. Like I've said in another post, I've got my system how I want it now and don't see me upgrading anything for a good while. Unless something goes terribly wrong...

If scan aren't allowed to sell it until the 30th, does that mean the orders will be despatched for delivery on the 30th?

not that I am recommending it but you could always lie the Microsoft when you ring up the activate windows when they say "how many PCs is this copy on"

OEM is tied to one machine at a time I recall reading that they have loosened the restriction in Vista that was going to be there so all the Tech freaks (including me) don't get locked out when they keep changing hardware

then the Microsoft activation when you ring up and have to key in 6 sets of six numbers then get back 6 sets of six numbers to key in is a pain lucky I can understand Indian English perfectly well (I worked In Alnwick for a while and if you can understand Strong Jordie you can understand anything ,Rab C no problem)

Why is there so much confusion on this? The loosening of the initial restriction applied to retail licences only. The OEM licence is unchanged from what it was on XP - you can install it on one system only and can't transfer it to a new one.

It seems cheaper to buy an oem version then when you build a new PC get another oem version,. Then you can have vista running on two pcs no prob.
