    Pre-Order Vista OEM?

    Hi.

I am looking to build a new PC in early January, and will probably order all the parts from you guys. I would also like to put Vista on it when it comes out. Is it possible to pre-order an OEM copy of Vista and have it delivered when it comes out even thought the qualifying hardware was delivered beforehand?

Do you have the prices for the various versions of Vista yet?

To clarify what I am asking. Normaly if you want to buy an OEM copy of windows, you need to buy some hardware, and if you go back to scan and ask them to take into account the hardware you brought last week, they refuse and say that the hardware must be brought at the same time.

What I am asking for is to add a Vista Pre-order to my shopping cart when I order a load of hardware, and have it delevered later, as I would prefer not not delay my hardware order, and I can use it with an old copy of Win2K in the meantime.

Once Vista has been release we can put this on what we call OG ( Outstanding goods ), so the order can be part shipped. As soon as Vista is released onto our site this will be possible.

Please note a carriage charge for the part shipment would be applicable as this would be 2 seperate deliveries for 1 order. This would be the only this would be possible as the hardware would need to be present on the same invoice to allow you to purchase at the OEM price.

Thats probably the best option. Order the system with XP Pro and get the 'free' upgrade to vista.

free = pay for shipping of the vista disc

The XP licence sold at the moment + Vista Upgrade is only applicable for fully built systems as stated on the Product Information.

Only the " To be released " OEM version of Vista can be purchased with seperate parts.

Overclockers (sorry scan) have Vista on pre-order on their site now, I wont put a link here as its inappropriate but perhaps scan will sort this out asap so as to not miss out on those few mad people so willing to jump into the deep end so quick

We are restricted and unable to sell Vista until the 30th. The product will be available from then via our web site

This is not down to Scan but MS.... and we dont like to break the rules

    Sorry.

What we can do, however is create a landing page online so Customers can fill out their details online to express their interest in Purchasing the software. Once the software has been released customers on this list will receive priority. Basically the same idea as with the Intel Quad Core CPU's

This will be set up shortly for you....

Any chance of accociating a registration in that landing zone with a hardware order made now? So that I can get an OEM copy of Vista when it comes out but still meeting the OEM hardware requirements?

I would prefer to buy all the hardware and software I need for my build from Scan, and preferably without having to order an unnecessary bit of extra hardware like a cheap mouse.

Also do you have a price list yet?

I'd also quite like to be able to do as Chrestomanci suggests - essentially order the kit and have Vista OEM sent out when it's ready.

thanks for the update Chris. As a side note, what are the restrictions of the OEM copy with regard to ordering, for example I am looking to buy a new hard drive, would that suffice or is it still the whole system built by Scan?

    Thanks

We can't associate them unfortunately as we are not allowed to sell the software until the 30th.

The OEM licence of Vista can be purchased with a 99p mouse, this is classed as a hardware purchase so not an issue really.

oustanding, just the answer I wanted looking forward to the 30th, although I am in the US for the next 3 weeks, perhaps the exchange rate will favour the bold, if not Scan's got my order

Excelent, I will be putting in a hardware order shortly, and you can expect an order for Vista with a 66p mouse in a months time.

Do your keep that mouse in your catlog just for windows OEM orders? I have one and it is rubish, so I can't imagine that anyone would buy one for any other reason.
