Another Vote here for the 5500's really.
My mate had them in his digs @ uni and when he moved into shared housing we could feel the bass at the front door when his room was up 3 flights of stairs towards the loft.
I bought a set of Z5500's off the FS section from Blackdwarf and haven't looked back since - great monitors, and a good sub. They even sound quite good musically, which lets be honest is pretty good for a £200 5.1 combination.
I did find that they like a good source though, I upgraded from onboard mobo sound to a Xi-Fi Music and it made a MASSIVE difference.
Another Z5500 Vote. Use them hooked up to my HTPC via a Auzentech X-Meridian Soundcard. Well worth the money
