    new hardware problem...any suggestions?

got me new X1600 pro sapphire card and 19" widescreen tft today.

small problem. i put the card in the pci- slot an it booted and evrything going ok till windows detected the new card and monitor.

my software won't install as it says it needs a vga compatible driver. i have tried re-installing under the system profile with the xp disc, ati driver disk, monitor disk and motherboard disk but to no avail.

picks up my little TNT 2 card straight away no problems. whats wrong, is the card incompatible with the mobo or windows???

the card chipset etc on this are displayed under display properties and adapters, the features on the ati are all question marks?

tried both dvi-d cable and analogue. same problems on the ati.

also, now it won't display a pic past the windows xp screen on boot up.

    arrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

just the norm for ATI drivers. I found the easiest way round it was to install the card with Omega ATI drivers as they dont come up with vga not found. Then install the official ones afterwards. Works everytime. Or unpack the ATI drivers and go into hardware and use update drivers and steer it to the ATI folder.

tried it and the card doesn't even register now apart from the win xp first screen then dead black screen.

i noticed it doesn't register on the first bios screen also. and the 2 resisters at the back are red hot after i took it out after the 2 min trial.
