    Spec me a workstation..

    Alright,

Grant money is always nice money,

I need to spec up a fairly powerful system for the new postdoc coming in. Previously we were buying from Dell but I am considering other alternatives as Dell charges, well, pretty extortionary. I'm giving myself several options, then Scan came to mind..

I was previously thinking of building them up using individual components but figured it might be better to let Scan build it up just for the sake of system support.

Jumping around the 3XS range seems rather confusing. Perhaps the guys at Scan might be able to help? The system will be used mainly as a number cruncher

    We need something around say,

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
RAID support for at least 4-8 drives, with a power supply that does the job as well..
Will need at least 2GB of memory
    DVD+/-RW drive
Geforce 7300 level graphics will be sufficient
    A workstation level 24'' monitor
+ the usual stuff of accessories..

We already have university license for x64, so that shouldn't be needed.

    Help?

    yes I have,

The problem I have with those sections are the amount of things that are made standard in the systems that we will never use..

I was wondering if Scan actually have some tailored solutions for Institutions and such..

Or I'll just have to call our managed account advisor at Scan?

sorry fella, i obviously didnt read your first post properly.

In all honesty you know what you want so I would just pick you components and then let someone from Scan check them over so there are not any glaring compatability problems.

One thing I will say is do NOT go for the AB9 Pro although I am sure there are many others who would nt agree.

    bumpage..

All I'm really looking for is a base system that doesnt have all the uneccessary bits in it.. and where I can actually spec it up to something decent..

I've got quotes from Viglen and such, just waiting for Scan now..

    Hi,

If you have not yet managed to get sorted yet feel free to call the sales team on 0870 755 4747 and ask for Phil Cordwell. We'll be able to build a system on your particular requirements no problem
If there is something specialised you may require, the the tech team will be able to sort a spec for you
