    Slow Start up of windows

About 2hrs ago I was browsing the web when evrything locked. So as you would I just restarted.

Thing is now, that the windows loading bar comes up and then disapears for about 30secs until the user log on page shows, when before this was almost instant. I haven't changed any settings or put an new hardware in.

Last hardware install was a 320Gb Deskstar from you guys and thats been working fine. Last change i made was to move my page file to my old 160Gb barracuda and had no issues.

    Any suggestions?

Tried the DFT but still no luck. Everything in windows seems fine just this annoying 30-40 sec start up when it was straight away.

Whats does the system use when starting up. Is the page file involved at all.
I know nothing bout this and just thinking of stuff I have changed recently.

I've check all the start up programs and theres nothing strange there.

As has been said, wrong forum, but that's by the bye.

Question: When the loading Windows screen disappears and the computer appears to be just sitting there, is the hard disk activity light flashing, constantly on, constantly off, or what?

I'd also suggest downloading and running Bootvis, before defragging all your disks. See what that does like.

when the screen is blank in between the windows loading screen and log on screen the acitivity light isnt flashing. It only begins to start flashing when the log on screen finally appears.

Where can I get that Bootvis?its no longer avaliable on the microsoft site.

Do you run sygate firewall by any chance? Its known for randomly causing this problem.

If not try disabling startup programs one by one til you work out what it is.

I would try system restore next. that should sort it theoreticly speaking.

if you have ran hardware checks on the system, and they have come back as fine. i can only assume its a software conflict.

So try the system restore and see how that goes.

    Mikes 2 cent.

you should check the event viewer 1st, see what errors are there.

clear all logs and reboot. see what shows up.

I wouldn't touch system restore at this point. Without knowing exactly when the problem started and when the last restore point was, you could end up accidentally uninstalling some important software, patches or updates.

    As for Bootvis Mike, http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/S.../BootVis.shtml
