    PSU Blew Up!

    Hi,
My computer parts arrived today as requested and all parts were in good condition. I made the computer and all was fine, went into the BIOS, checked the temperatures (Seemed fine) and everything was working. All drives were seen, same with optical. Everything registered fine.

So, onto installing Windows XP Pro. About 5 minutes into installation the PSU made a bang and I noticed a spark come out from the back of it. Thus everything turned off. Whatever happend caused the switch to trip in my electrical box and all the sockets went off until I turned them back on.

What do I do? I had been looking forward to this all week and all I got was 5 minutes before the PSU died on me.

I would of thought the PSU would of also effected other parts too, so I am going to send the whole lot back and have it tested. I'm not happy at all, especially when £1,300 was spent. Furious !!!

All the fans were working too. If I send it back how fast am I going to get my new parts? Another weeks wait is so dissapointing after looking forward to this for weeks.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ps : My dad reckoned the PSU was a re-conditioned one as it looked like one of the screws on it was tampered with.

    Grrrr!!

It was Tagan 600Watt power supply. Extremely disappointed after hearing about them being the best PSU company.

I guess I'll do my research by myself next time.

    Angry Matt.

Give it 5 minutes, you should soon know.

Thanks for the hard work ChrisP.

One last thing, Is it possible to have the psu replaced with a different brand? + Will the new items be sent asap or will I have to wait another week?

    Regards,
    -Matt

    You are kidding?
Enermax/Corsair/OCZ are the best 'mainstream units.
There are others that are very good but also very expensive. Tagan isnt one of them.

I would expect so as the item is most definately faulty within 28 days. I do think you have been extremely unlucky with the Tagan PSU, as they are usually rock solid.

I'll let Returns know that you would prefer an alternative brand.

    Best Regards

galaxy are good PSU,s .I wish now that I purchased them instead of the tagan 900watt. I had to change it twice already , and both times it was the switch.

    I beg to differ...

Build quality on Tagan PSU's in my opinion is unrivalled. Attention to detail is what sets them apart along with the high power output.

I personally feel you have been unlucky Matt.

Every company brand has faulty products, to suggest one brand is the best just because you have never heard of that particular brand go boom is really not a good way of recommending products.

As chris P mentioned Tagen are of high quality and in this case I think its just a case of bad luck.

Hexus and many others test hardware and share their expert findings with people as fortunate as ourselves so that when it comes to purchasing components for our computers we are not left in the dark to what would be a good purchase.

Pesonally I would stick with the Tagan or maybe look at the Corsair 620w HX with its 5 year warranty

Seasonic are among the very best, as are the big Enermax's, Corsair are built by Seasonic, Tagan are usually OK - you have been unlucky - it happens.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

I would like to stick with the same power supply. I now realise I have been very unfortunate with this PSU and would like to have it replaced with the same model.

I have heard a lot of good things about Tagan so I guess it's only fair to give them one more try.

I'm now just crossing my fingers to make sure the motherboard is still in working condition.

    Regards,
    -Matt
