    Product query

    hi

am hoping you can tell me whether or not the 'Corsair Dominator Airflow Fan (Fits onto the Memory slots to cool the memory)' Scan code LN15702 can be used with ddr2 ordinary memory or is this in some way made to only work with the Dominator series of memory.

    Many thanks for your time.

Hey Piranha, it will work with pretty much any DDR2 sticks as it attaches to the retaining clips on the slots rather than the RAM itself.

The only thing you might notice is that the fan is positioned at the right height for the Dominator sticks - which are very tall thanks to the DHX heatsinks. There might be a bit of a gap between the fan and other types of memory, but you'll have no problems fitting it on.

Well, how else would I know the above?

It's very nicely made, works well and it's relatively quiet. Three wire fan so if you have speed controllable headers on your board, or an offboard fan controller, you can throttle it up and down to suit.

Other than that, what else you wanna know?

Could you tell me please how noisy it is and whether or not it sticks out much after the clips for the ram - have a p5b-d which has the memory quite close to the gfx card so am wondering if will fit ok.

Noise is a relative thing. At full speed it runs at something like 5000rpm, but it's not as noisy as you might think. At 100% you can hear it's there but the noise is unintrusive, and if you had one of the louder CPU fans you'd never hear it.

By the time it is throttled down to 2200 rpm or so, I'd imagine it'd be inaudible above the other fans even in a quiet system.

As far as the clearance to your graphics card, I would estimate that it only protrudes about an eighth of an inch or so proud of the clips on the RAM slots. The fan wire sticks out one end, but as long as you put this at the top I wouldn't envisage you having a problem.
