    Question Online DVD rental places...

    Hey,

I'm wondering which online DVD rental type place is best? The ones where you pay a flat fee and you get posted as many DVD's as you want. Ideally, I'd like a place which has Blu-ray films too (and PS3 games if possible!).

Which sites offer the best price/choice ratio, and have the best service etc.?

    Cheers

    Suman

Since Lovefilm and screenselect merged there's not really a great deal of competition anymore, as most brands are just resellers of lovefilms packages.

The only one's I'm not sure about, are Blockbuster and HMV which may have their own operations (although I may be wrong).

LoveFilm aren't too bad, but I used to be with Screenselect, and since the merger, it's not what it used to be. I seem to get a lot more low priority films, and sometimes have to wait ages for the high priority ones.

Having said that it's still good value for money, and unless you get someone who genuinely does have a separate operation, you may as well go straight to lovefilm themselves.

you could also try easycinema. Now supplied by Lovefilm, so same library, but different cash model:
you pay per film, rather than per month. Works out much better if you're the kind of person who likes to hang on to a film or don't have a predictable lifestyle

price is pretty much the same

    Re: Online DVD rental places...

LoveFilm sem to be making every possible effort to monopolise the DVD rental market. I'm a current member and agree that since they merged with Screen Select and umpteen others, th service has gone down hill. Personally I'd say take the 3 month trial or whatever you can get from them then look around for one of the few that aren't "powered" by LoveFilm.

My notice to them is on its way soon as I find another.

I've had trouble with missing DVDs, wrong titles being sent, up to a week to get one through, and now the straw that broke the camel's back... They've just sent me a copy. That's right... A COPY. Not a very good one at that. Wouldn't play in any DVD player in the house inc PS2. Had to watch it on a laptop. And customer service - replies to emails, phoning, etc would be turd - if it existed.

    Not impressed.

Take the trial and flick em!

Also, the priority list they are so proud of means next to nothing.

    Copies... I ask you?!?

I sent you a PM with a free trial code.
There's no such thing as 'unlimited' these days, I'd go for one of their cheaper fixed-number-per-month deals if you're looking for something long-term.

    Re: Online DVD rental places...

Dont go anywhere near MyMovieStream, they never have enough stock service is slow and not to mention trying to cancel account with them. Tried one occasion and was told no need to do it day before payment due. Cancelled my debit card to try and stop them, but they threatened me with Debt Collection Agency. Mentioned that i would let others know of the service and accused me of slander. Manager told me if i wish to cancel will have to do it next month on specified date. Date came around and they took payment again two days before i could cancel.
I dont use there discs anymore, just trying to stop payments going out. Customer service rude and refuses to speak to you when asking for Managerial staff. Its Xmas now so i have to try and cancel next year. Just want to leave but they are milking me. Contacting Trading Standards for advice and maybe Watchdog if it continues. AGAIN AVOID!!!!

Speak to your bank's disputed transaction line, they should be able to stop the payments.

    Re: Online DVD rental places...

Amazon is very good so far for me.

Lots of Blu-ray, never wait for more than a day or two after sending back till my new one is here.

I was paying £3.99 a month which allowed you 1 at a time and 3 a month but upgraded it to £7.99 which is one at a time and unlimited per month .... last month I had 8 and one of them must have went missing in the post on the way here, quick email to amazon and they had another on the way the next day.

    Re: Online DVD rental places...

I've been using 3-month free lovefilm trials for a long, long time now. Unlimited 2 DVDs/Games at a time. If they ever curb this abuse I'd be happy to pay for them, fast turnaround and good selection.
