Questions: on selling misccellanous things
Whilst doing a spring tidy, and in preparation of filling a bank account with money as travel money, I've found a LOT of things that I don't need anymore. the question is what's the best way of selling them.
The items will include
* so far <25 DVD cased PC games (perfect condition with original manuals included)
* A few DVD films
* A laptop battery and charger (no longer required as I have gt rid of that laptop)
* a few smalish sized mp3 players.
* Quite a few sealed packs of minidiscs (due to my HiMD player breaking)
* Quite a few NDS games.
With the games, I could pop into cex, game, gamestation or blockbuster to exchange them in, but they don't appear to have any sort of price lists (and tend to rip you off instead its an exchange for something they sell....)
Alternatively ebay or play.com, but there's charges included.
Otherwise I'll stick them on here, with a hope that they will be gone and done with within a month (before I go on holiday.)
Next questions are to do with what's the best way of payment?
* Does anyone use cheques?
* Does bank to bank account exchanges charge?
* Or is it better to use paypal and again get ripped off?
Re: Questions: on selling misccellanous things
Bank to Bank / BankX / Bank Transfer is free and is the most used methods on HEXUS IMO.
Paypal is generally fine too if you know the person on the forums - although always get home numbers before sending a lot of money.

1) I don't mind cheques but they take time to clear (about 5 to 7 working days)
2) Nope, bank transfers as far as I am aware involve no charge
3) Paypal is popular, but you can do what most sellers do, is to charge the buyer 4% if they decide to pay by paypal.
Re: Questions: on selling misccellanous things
i always try to sell here first, mainly becuase theres good trustful people here and its free.
ebay is very expensive to list and sell an item i like to deduct about 10-15 percent of what im expecting..
cheque is old school, takes longer and is basically the same as a bank transfer but thats quicker and easier even saves the cost of a stamp :)

i think ebay frown apon that and would close the listing (iirc)
as long as you dont expect much of the original price back then you should have happy times selling :)
though please if anyone disagrees then do say, sometimes i disagree with myself!

Re: Questions: on selling misccellanous things
What bank details do I actually need to give out to set up a BACS?
Don't want to give out too much that someone can go and withdraw all my money...

Which bank too. usually helps if they want to pay cash in directly or if they want to do a transfer instantly online. (e.g. if you are natwest, then I can transfer same day from my natwest, but not from my hsbc account)
