    Question Digital Cameras

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.

I'm looking at buying a digital camera. Last time I bought one, 2 megapixel cameras were the bees knees and there were only about 2 on the shelf. I was looking at cameras in Tesco and things seemed to have moved on abit.

I'm informed now that its not about the total megapixel but the quality of the components. With that in mind, all I want is a point and click camera. Not bothered about zooming or anything. I will be using it abroad in, shall we say, less than 'peaceful' circumstances so its got to be durable.

I was looking at a Fujifilm Finepix z20. It looks simple enough to use and boasts "blur free photographs". I want to spend no more than £130

    Any other suggestions?

Canon Ixus 75 is very good, been selling loads of these at work at the moment, 7 Megapixel, very good quality camera, well built, takes a Lithium Ion battery, runs on SD cards so they are pretty cheap, £130 gets you a cracking bit of kit

I would go for a Canon too. Get one that uses off the shelf batteries though, like AA. That way you can grab some spare batteries anywhere!

    Re: Digital Cameras

Ug, I hate cameras that run on AA batteries, every camera I've had that uses them (rechargeable or not) eats them in a matter of minutes, hence why I prefer lithium ions over AA's.

Thats just my personal view though.

Maybe he's a mercenary in real life, and the camera has to be equally as rugged

The Fuji Z20FD you've got your eyes on looks to be a pretty good camera in its own right

But I'd be inclined to agree with the recommendations for a Canon Digital Ixus as an alternative.
At £116.00, the Ixus 75 is well within your budget
Or add just a few quid more to your intended budget (£137.00), and you'd be able to get the (slightly) better specced Ixus 80
(The "Rythm & Blue" version is a couple of quid cheaper on that same site - £135.00)

I have an 'old' Canon A80 and it is a solid camera. It has to be with my 19 month old daughter throwing it around!!

    Re: Digital Cameras

For your budget, and if not looking for a 'fashion/ultra small camera' then it has to be the Canon A720IS.

Some reviews from camera-specific websites (don't trust reviews from general hardware sites):

    Re: Digital Cameras

I'd have a look at some of the reviews on some of the camera websites:

    dpreview
    cameralabs
    etc...

    I've just gone for a PAnasonic FX500 for £170 from Amazon.com

I second this, mines is so much better than my old Casio 3.2 mp camera. Incredibly quick start up time (around 1.2 seconds), and the picture quality is very good for a compact camera.

I have a Canon A80 - it has lasted several years. I only replaced it because technology has moved on. I am convinced it will outlive me!
