Where to get my new rig?

Please, do not say Overclockers! I have used them in the past, and they must still employ the same care free, bitter, moronic people ever. Had so many issues with them, I will never use them again.

eBuyer don't seem to be keeping up how they used to with motherboards, so I'm looking for a decent supplier.

Scan, I have had a mate sent a motherboard S/H or Used, when I bought a new motherboard.. Think, no static bag! no extras/screws/leads! lol.

    Any others?

Re: Where to get my new rig?

Well I might suggest that your experience isnt the norm with scan, did your mate contact them? Usually they are good at sorting stuff out if mistakes have been made.

Are you buying pre-built or components?

Other than the three you mentioned,

CCL Online are another big one; I have used before but not as much as scan or ebuyer.
For components Dabs.com are another big store, (owned by BT, I'll leave it to you as whether that is good or a bad thing)
There are also places like Lambdatek which may not have the flashiest website but my goods have always arrived as listed.

Re: Where to get my new rig?

Depends what sort of rig you're after, as you can start with Dell and go on to places like KustomPC's.

Scan have a good range of systems and their service is usually good - so it's worth having a look.

I guess that's just the way life is, once you have a bad experience you don't trust them.

Will check out the others. My mate ended up getting a replacement, after a week though.

Re: Where to get my new rig?

Ebuyer and Scan tend to te the best IMO. Their prices are very competitive although IMO Ebuyer usually tend to be cheaper but Scan have faster delivery. (Mainly because Scan's delivery is 3 day I think max whereas Ebuyer can be 5 day max when I use free delivery option)

I haven't had any problems with scan so i dunno how their support goes. Ebuyer's support is brilliant though although my RMA is a week late but as it's a MicroSD card I won't complain.

Re: Where to get my new rig?

I think you can only judge an experience for yourself, mistakes are made by any company it doesnt mean they are particulary bad at what they do. I would take what your friend said with a pinch of salt as there is always 2 sides to a story.

Hope you make the correct decision.

    Best Regards

Re: Where to get my new rig?

I've always had pleasant experiences with the guys at SCAN and would recommend their services without hesitation.

Text messages to say when the products shipped, with tracking number? = Excellent.

Scan,Ebuyer,Dabs and Novatech. I prefer to buy from Scan if possible though especially as they have been very quick to respond to queries and always package stuff very well. Also you get free next day postage from them too by being a member of Hexus with 20+ posts.

If it's a VERY big order, or when I collected from store, Novatech

Prices might be a touch higher than Scan, but it does have the benefit of 3% cashback on Quidco (And convenience of getting an order an hour after you place it!)

Ebuyer seem to have some good prices and I have used them before without problem. I agree about oc.co.uk though. Returns policy and staff leave a little to be desired.

I've found Aria to be pretty good, plus you can speak to a real human if there is a problem.
Tekheads used to be good but I've not used them in a while.

I don't find Scan as good on pricing as they used to be though.

Re: Where to get my new rig?

    As for as components go:

I've used ebuyer a few times without problem.

I've ordered from Aria a couple of times without problem. Although always check the final price, as every item you add to your cart increases the delivery charge (listed pre VAT) as well as increasing the VAT line to include not only the VAT on the extra item, but also the extra VAT on the increased delivery charge. Lot's of people seem not to notice this until it's brought to their attention - which is probably why Aria do it this way, but it seems a little deceptive to me.

I've ordered a lot from Scan. Only had two RMAs. All went smoothly both times. Although, on the one where I asked for a refund rather than a replacement, it was almost a month before the refund appeared in my account. But I didn't need to chase them up in either instance, just something to be aware of.

I've also ordered from Amazon.co.uk (not marketplace - only products where Supersaver delivery is available) without problems.

For whole systems and peripherals I've ordered a number of times from Dell when they've had some good deals. Mostly been very happy. Only had a couple of problems, and although it required a little perserverence, I managed to get the problem solved in one case and a full refund in the other.

Good luck with your new rig.

Thumbs up Re: Where to get my new rig?

I have only ever used either Ebuyer or Scan and to be honest have never had a bad experience with either, hopefully it remains like that. I have bought loads from Amazon but never computer components except maybe an external HD they were good as well. I tend to stick to the big retailers online as they have the best name.
