    GFX Card Selection - HELP!?

    Hey everyone.

I've been thinking of buying a new graphics card for my PC. Currently i'm using a XFX Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 1GB. I want something more powerful. I'm looking for something between £100-£150. Please can you give me some guidance? There are so many different cards out there, i don't know which one would give me my money's worth.

I shop at ebuyer and scan.

Thanks in advance for any help/replies!

GTX 260 Core 216 is what you wanna be looking at in that price range tbh.

    this one's a decent price
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161967

many many times faster than your 8500GT.

Re: GFX Card Selection - HELP!?

I'd take a Radeon 5770. Performance is about the same as a 216 but has a lower power draw and a bit of future proofing as it supports DX11 (a bit cheaper too).

Re: GFX Card Selection - HELP!?

What you get depends on what PSU you have!

The HD4890 1GB has the best DX9 and DX10 performance in your price range but consumes a lot of power:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179869

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-S...VI-I-HDTV-HDCP

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-X...VI-I-HDTV-HDCP

The HD5770 1GB OTH has DX11 and lower power consumption:

Re: GFX Card Selection - HELP!?

I agree with CAT-THE-FIFTH regarding the PSU. If you need one, you'll have to factor in the additional cost into your budget.

You will also need to tell us about your PC case (ATX/mATX/SFF/slim-line?), as all the cards suggested are considerably long & broad. Plus the rest of your spec, especially CPU & RAM - you don't want to be running any of those GPUs along with a single-core CPU & 1Gb RAM.

Also let us know the games you're thinking of playing, & your monitor's resolution/make+model.

To mix it up a bit, saw this one in my e-deals email thingey earlier.. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160748 Nice saving, not really an nVidia person, but this is the older version of the card, doubtfull the little improvements in the 216 warrant nearly £40 more tho?

well it has an extra 24 cores and all the cores are faster.
the extra little bit is probably worth the extra £40

Sorry guys i forgot to include my PSU. I have a corsair 850W PSU which should be more than enough for a decent card?

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit.

I'd reccomend the 5770 for price/performance ratio at this present time.

    They're both identical.

Try the usual: ebuyer, novatech, CCL, dabs etc.

    for eg:

Re: GFX Card Selection - HELP!?

It might make a little difference but then all the cards can be overclocked to improve there core and memeory speed and some without voiding the warranty.

If you want to tweak the best one (IMHO) is the asus voltage tweak version for up to £130 (if you can find one is stock, scan are overdue and ebuyer dont list them)

    http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...-XR577H1&af=50

Hexus have a review of them as well.
